Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY HELEN ANDERSON (nee DUKELOW) February 11, 1921 - May 17, 2016 Our mom, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away in her sleep, early in the morning of May 17, 2016, peacefully at River East Personal Care Home. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Robert Ness Anderson in 1960; parents, Arthur and Vera Dukelow; sister Winnie (Fred); brother Jim (Jean); and also her family of in-laws, Bob and Pat Killingbeck, and Alan and Marj Anderson, who spent many happy years together. Mom leaves her three children, Brodie (Patti), Ginny (Bill) and Glen (Christine); five grandchildren, Rheanne, Robert, Kayla, Brodie and Sarah; and one great-grandchild Kaiven. Mom was born in Winnipeg and spent her years growing up in West Kildonan. Once married, she moved to Saskatoon, Edmonton, Tulsa, Oklahoma and then back to East Kildonan. Mom was active at the East Kildonan YMCA as a board member, instructor and daily swimmer. She had many friends at the Y, and was a member of the Jobe's Daughter's serving as a leader. Dorothy was a single parent for many years. During much of this time, she worked part-time as a secretary in the insurance area, latterly at Kelvin Florist where she was happy. She was a member of Kildonan Presbyterian Church, loving the old church in the cemetery. Mom devoted her life to raising her three kids, teaching them the right way. She loved to sew and knit, was a genuine crafter, and passed those traits onto her daughter. Mom was also a great cook, and her three children grew up in a stable, warm and loving home. Remember the apple pies on Sunday? Mom enjoyed trips to the U.S., Ireland, Scotland, Hawaii and Mexico with her in-laws and friends. The family extends a sincere thank you to River East Personal Care Home for their care and comfort to our mom. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 30, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Kildonan Community Church, 2373 Main Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to The Manitoba Lung Association.

Even though I hadn't seen Mrs. A for a number of years, thinking of her brings a smile and memories of good times. I do remember the moms - Mrs. A, Mrs. Shettler, Mrs. Wallace and Mrs. Clay in particular - who were always planning and supervising fun events for the girls in Bethel 9. Thanks for the memories and all your kindness Mrs. A. - Posted by: Sue Garvey () on: Jun 07, 2016

My, how time passes. Dorothy was one of Mum's (Olive Shettler) best friends. They were kindred spirits. Olive had a little verse framed on an end table in her living room. It said "Without friends, life is nothing". I believe Dorothy was part of that sentiment for Mum/Olive. Murray and I still have the ceramic Christmas Tree that she hand painted for us and gave to us as our wedding gift. Every year when we bring it out, we think fondly of Dorothy. She was always kind to me. I remember her most when I was active in Job's Daughters and worked alongside her at Kelvin Florist many years ago. But there were other family get-togethers with Ginny and Glen that were fun. Love & Peace, Gay-Lynn - Posted by: Gay-Lynn Beighton (family friend) on: May 22, 2016
