CHRYSE KELEKIS CASTRAN
Date of Passing: May 27, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHRYSE KELEKIS CASTRAN The journey has concluded on May 27, 2016 for Chryse one day before her 102nd birthday. Born in Montreal to Chris and Magdalene Kelekis she was the eldest of all her siblings: Fotina, Sophie, Evelyn, Isabel, Mary, Leo and Becky. She was a petite but elegant woman never seen without her hair perfectly coiffed. A lady to her fingertips always gracious and smiling. An avid reader and lover of the arts, music, films, books, concerts and fashion, and all things beautiful. She was a wonderful Aunt to Jimmy, Chrys, Melanie and Barbara and a doting Great Aunt to their children too. She worked with her sisters at Kelekis Restaurant at 1100 Main for many years. She always took an interest in young people and offered them advice and counsel too. She made many wonderful friends over her lifetime and two of them will miss her greatly. Dorothy Rempel was a constant visitor long after she moved to West Park Manor and maintained a long standing friendship. For Arlyne Walsh she was a surrogate mother and she loved Arlyne's vivacity and they had a very special bond that has never changed over many years. Chryse leaves on her next journey with all good feelings from her two surviving sisters Mary and Becky; her nephews and nieces, Jim and Barbra Pappas, Chrys Pappas and Kaye Dunlop, Melanie Hall and Barbara Hall as well as their children and their partners. She is off to join her late husband Steve and all her siblings who are preparing a place at the table. The family wishes to thank everyone at West Park Manor for their care and concern. Prayers will be on Wednesday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral Service will be on Thursday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Shaftesbury and Grant. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a gift to a charity of your choice is suggested. 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

My memories of Chryse to back to my childhood, when our family would be regulars at the restaurant on Sunday evenings (my usual was the veal cutlets with gravy and peas). Although I studied law and became a lawyer, Chryse was a constant supporter of my pursuits in music and theatre - whether as a piano student or voice student, or as a performer at St. John's High School or Rainbow Stage. Over the years, she greeted many show casts when we arrived for our post-show snacks - always with genuine enthusiasm and interest. Although I never provided Chryse with the photo she always requested for the famous wall of celebrities (much to my Mother, Pearl's, dismay), she insisted that I was nevertheless a star. She was a true lady. My condolences to the entire family. Richard Yaffe - Posted by: Richard Yaffe () on: Jun 04, 2016

Sincere Condolences to the Kelekis family & friends. "Affectionately Aunty" Chryse left the most beautiful, kindest and happiest memories from childhood and leading into my senior years. (Always slipped me a Jersey milk and Kelekis pencil with a hush-hush expression and wink on the way out.) God Bless and farewell. - Posted by: Stefphany Cholakis () on: May 28, 2016
