Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE TIESSEN On June 5, 2016 Cathy passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital, after a brief illness, at the age of 79 years. Cathy is survived by her husband Harry, her children and their spouses Linda and Cal, Anita and Craig, Don and Kathy, her granddaughters Isabella and Lucy, her sister Helen, her brother Dick and sister-in-law Erika, and many nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. She was predeceased by her youngest sister Nettie, her parents Anton and Helene, and her nephew Vic. Cathy was born January 16, 1937 in Osterwick, Ukraine and following several years in Germany she and her family arrived in Winnipeg in 1948. She and Harry were married on May 4, 1957, and together they had three children Linda (born 1961), Anita (born 1963) and Don (born 1966). She was a devoted wife and mother. Alongside family, her faith has always been a cornerstone of her life, and she was very active in the Mennonite Church community through Bible study, Pioneer Girls, Frauen Verein, youth sponsor and working as church secretary. Through the church, Cathy and Harry played a leading role in helping resettle a Vietnamese refugee family in the 1970s. Cathy also had a great love of life, enjoying camping, travelling, the arts, and playing Scrabble with her friends. She was a real people person, with a wide circle of friends that spanned the generations, and had a truly empathetic and compassionate approach to listening to and supporting others. Cathy will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by all those whose lives she touched through friendship, faith and family. We would like to give special thanks to the caring staff at St. Boniface Hospital, whose attentiveness and support was very much appreciated. The funeral will be on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch Street. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Friends Funeral Service, 204-339-5555
