MELVYN WALLACE TIMKO November 6, 1941 - June 6, 2016 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden, peaceful passing of Melvyn Timko, with his wife Patricia and cousin Sylvia at his side, on Monday, June 6, 2016, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mel is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his wife Patricia (Fyfe); sister Dianne (John) Green; nieces, Crystal (Ray) Nash, Lara (Greg) Rooney, Stacey (Bruce) Rutledge and great-nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Donna (Wayne) Sprague; cousin and good friends, Sylvia Koldon and family. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Rose (Kubin) Timko; and brothers, Charles and Garry. Mel was born in Halbrite, Saskatchewan and grew up in Beaubier and Torquay before making his permanent home in Winnipeg. He followed his dad's footsteps working for the CPR. Mel will be remembered as a serious card player, excelling in crib and canasta. His favourite pastimes were watching televised sports, old westerns and comedies. He loved a good laugh and had a passion for fishing with his cousins, Dennis and Gerry Koldon. In his younger years, Mel enjoyed refereeing hockey, curling and bowling. Mel was happy to be part of Elim Chapel Fellowship, where both he and Pat volunteered. Many thanks to Sylvia Koldon, the caring staff, physicians and dieticians of St. Boniface Hospital in E.R., 5E, 5B and to those who visited during his hospital stay. A celebration of Mel's life will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Elim Chapel, 546 Portage Ave. Reception to follow. A private family interment is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mel's memory may be made to Elim Chapel or St. Boniface, CancerCare.

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Mel was our wonderful neighbour for the past three years and I am so glad that I got to know him. He was always so cheerful and friendly and we loved to see him out working in his yard or walking over to pick up the mail. I am so sorry Pat that we were not at Mel's memorial service. Somehow, we missed the notice in the paper. Please stop by and see Mom and I if you are ever in the neighbourhood. Sincerely, Susan Fonseca - Posted by: Susan Fonseca (Neighbour) on: Jun 20, 2016
