Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELLIE ZIMMERMAN It is with very heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our most loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Ellie (Alida) Zimmerman on Wednesday June 22, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Mom leaves to mourn her children, Barb (Paul), Donald (Erika), Brian (Donna), Sharon (Bruce); her grandchildren, Lynn (Shane), Laurie (Jeff), Jacki (Jamie), Andrew, Juli; Kevin, Jordan (Julie), Michael (Tesa); Logan (Amanda), Travis, Jenna; Adam; Alida, Troy; her great-grandchildren, Kaden and Emily; Cole, Anna and William; Stella and Madelyn; Teagan and Dash. Mom also leaves to mourn her siblings, Gysje, Aart, Dikkie, Jannie, Tina, Gerrie, John, Walter and brothers and sisters-in-law and many friends. Mom was predeceased by dad Harvey; her mother and father; brother Dirk; sisters, Joopie and Bertha; niece Jannae. Mom was born on August 4, 1938 in Driebergen, The Netherlands to Dirk and Dirkje van nieuw Amerongen. Mom was number six of 12 children. In 1952, mom and her parents and nine of her siblings immigrated to Canada, which brought them to Whitemouth. In 1955, mom went to West Hawk Lake for work at the Trans Canada Restaurant, which is where she met dad. They were married in August of 1956, they spent 49 years together before dad's passing in 2005. Mom had a passion for cooking, she was not afraid of work and she loved people interactions; that is what brought mom and dad to own the Nite Hawk Cafe in 1970. Mom also ran the cafeteria at Falcon Ski Hill for ten winters. Mom loved to watch curling, she travelled across the country to take part in a Scotties Tournament. In earlier years, mom loved to embroider, she knit many sweaters and crocheted hundreds of doilies, her most recent passion was crocheting baby blankets for every new baby in the family and for friends in the area. Mom's greatest time of year was Christmas, she loved to decorate, cook and visit all. Mom had many passions, but her true passion in life was for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many hours and days were spent at numerous family gatherings. A celebration of Mom's life will be held on July 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Whiteshell Community Club in Falcon Lake. We will celebrate her life with a sharing of stories. Donations may be made in mom's memory to the Southeast Whiteshell Fire Department. We would like to thank the staff at St. Anne Hospital for the care they took of mom the short time there. So very sorry to hear of Ellie's passing. Sharon and Brian and families, our deepest sympathies go out to you. We have many fond memories of Ellie from the earlier days at the "Pub" as they called it to the Nite Hawk Café, otherwise known as Ellie's. Our trailer is still at the lake and there isn't a weekend that goes by that we don't come to Ellie's for either French Fries or ice cream or both. RIP Ellie, you will be missed. - Posted by: The Kenick (Pruden) Famiies (Long-time friends (West Hawk Lake)) on: Jul 05, 2016

Our deepest sympathies go out to you Sharon, Brian and families. We have so many fond memories of Ellie and West Hawk Lake. Starting with the "Pub" as they called it and then the Nite Hawk Café, otherwise known as Ellie's. We still to this day get French fries every weekend from Ellie's and sometimes ice cream too. I will always remember her big smile that lit up the room. RIP Ellie, you will be missed. - Posted by: The Kenick & Pruden Families (friends) on: Jul 05, 2016

I was only about 6 when I first met Ellie. She was always so kind and sweet to my family and I. I remember 8 years I had went back to hike the manitario trail and had insisted to my friends that we stop at Ellies for her great burgers and amazing ice cream. She remembered me and brought me into the back like always, so we could visit and catch up:) My most sincerest condolescenses to her family. She was a wonderful selfless woman. I was lucky to have known her. - Posted by: Tanya Woroniuk () on: Jul 02, 2016

What a wonderful lady... We still think of her often, even tho we moved away over 20 yrs ago. Fond memories of visiting for coffee in the mornings and she always had that 'box of trucks' for Nicholas to play with. Such a big heart. Ellie's always felt like home. Nice to stop by a couple times over the years on our way by, but not often enough.. Our deepest sympathies Sharon and Bruce ... So very sorry for the loss of Ellie. I remember out trips while at the cottage to the Nite Hawk café for the best French fries around and the ice cream cones never mind the very best Denver sandwiches anywhere. It was always such a pleasure to visit with the Zimmerman family and Ellie. A sad time and she will be missed by so many. I heard of Aunt Ellie's passing and wanted to express our condolences to you all. Although we have not stayed in close contact over the years, I have fond memories of her and Uncle Harvey at Christmas dinners at lakeside Cabins and at the Café when I was a teenager. Your mom always had a huge smile and was very welcoming. Our sympathy goes out to you. - Posted by: Wayne Zimmerman (nephew) on: Jun 26, 2016
