STEVE TURKO Peacefully, on Friday, June 24, 2016, I left this world to begin my new journey. I was born on November 16, 1949 in Stuttgart, Germany and immigrated to Canada with my family in 1951. I was always proud and held fond memories of my early years growing up as a "North Ender". It was here that I made close friendships that I have maintained throughout my life. I have worked in the plumbing industry in sales and management for 36 years, retiring from Crane/Fiat in 2007. In 1968 I met Cathy Oldershaw, who quickly became my best friend, companion and wife. We were married in 1973 and have enjoyed a loving and fulfilling life together. We have been fortunate to spend many summers at Clearwater Bay, golfing on some extraordinary courses across Canada and abroad and enjoyed many trips to tropical and exotic destinations. Through my employment, we were able to visit almost all parts of Canada and we were blessed with the opportunity to meet and befriend many new and wonderful acquaintances. I always took great pride on our home and yard. Here we enjoyed entertaining family and friends over a glass of wine. Sadly, I leave behind, my beloved wife Cathy, my sister Helen Garbacz (Steve), my brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins to cherish my memory. I was predeceased by my parents George and Katherine Turko, baby brother George Jr., parents-in-law Ed and Freddie Oldershaw, and nephew Craig Simpson. As per my wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. A private gathering will be held at a later date. I would like to thank everyone for their phone calls, visits, cards, messages and concerns. I would also like to thank all my doctors and nurses for their compassion and care. "It is impossible to imagine my life without you, I will treasure and hold dear our memories forever." Love Cathy CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

  • I only just heard the news, Cathy, of Steve's passing and want to extend my sincere sympathies. Our adventures together with Crane will forever be a source of happy memories. We certainly shared a few glasses of wine. Bill left us in 2010 so hope he and Steve are enjoying some memories together, as well. Rest in peace, Steve. - Posted by: Karen Martin (Hutchinson) (Crane friends) on: Aug 21, 2016

  • Linda and I would like to send our sincere condolences to Cathy and family. Linda and I will miss Steve's smile and his positive attitude towards life and work. I met Steve in the late 70's as we worked together at Boeing of Canada, Wascan Plumbing operation and finally at Fiat Products Ltd Canadian Division. We were not only co-workers, we also became friends. We had many laughs and disappointments but the relationship lasted for over 35 years. Linda and I always enjoyed Steve and Cathy's company when we were on business trips, golf outings, lunches and parties that we attended with them over the years. The only regret I have is I should have stayed in better contact with Steve over the past couple of years. Always Alan and Linda - Posted by: Alan and Linda Anderson (Friends) on: Jul 07, 2016

  • We met Cathy and Steve during their golfing tenure at Larters Golf Club. Their being a fun loving couple, made it very easy to quickly form a friendship. Steve always seemed to have a smile, and even in later years when he developed his serious health problems, he always was positive and looked on the bright side of life. We will cherish the fun memories we have of Steve, and express our sincere condolences to Cathy. We are sure the fond memories of her life with Steve will comfort her through this period of grief and provide her with everlasting enjoyment. • To Cathy and Family, What I will truly miss about Steve is the spark in his eye, the chuckle in his voice and the zest he had for life. Steve had the gift for always listening and responding enthusiastically in the present moment to the person at hand whoever he or she was. He was fun to be with, competitive and always classy and he learned over the years to make everyone he talked to feel very special, friends and acquaintances alike. He was courageous, persevering and steadfast in his quest to love and to be loved. Steve fought the good fight and in the end he won the prize. He was the brother I never had and the friend we will always have because love endures. Denis and Betty-Ann Beaudry - Posted by: Betty-Ann and Denis Beaudry (Friend) on: Jul 06, 2016

  • It was an honor to have the pleasure to know Steve & Cathy for over 30 years. Steve and I became very close pals while I was working as a rep for Fiat products. After we retired that friendship continued. Will always cherish the fun times I had working and use visiting Steve & Cathy in Winnipeg. Our condolences go out to his wonderful wife Cathy. Rest in peace old pal. Doug Day - Posted by: Doug & Rita Day (Friend) on: Jul 02, 2016
