JACK (JOHN DAVID) AINGE September 8, 1945 - July 4, 2016 It is with complete sadness that we announce Jack's passing after a long, gut wrenching fight with cancer on July 4, 2016. He was predeceased by his faithful dog Chinook, his father David (Dave) Ainge, his friend Jim (GoGo) Hritzai, father-in-law Harry Sandulak, auntie Barb Smith, uncle Jack Smith, uncle Nelson Smith and brother-in-law Taras Sandulak. He is enjoying a drink with them way too soon. He will be forever missed by his beloved wife Gayle, daughter Jillian, mother Grace, sister Pamela, brother-in-law Larry Gunn (Sue), Bill Sandulak, Nick Sandulak, sister-in-law Marion Sandulak, Pauline Sandulak, nephews Roddy Spence, William Spence, grandcats Minnie and Licorice and many other beloved extended family and friends. He enjoyed spending time in years past at Victoria Beach, curling during the winter months and puttering with projects in his home. He loved to spend his days grocery shopping, even in retirement, watching TV and helping out friends and family with any task. Jack was born, raised and continued to live in Transcona. Except for a few years, he lived there his whole life. He was proud to be from Transcona even though he didn't like the pink flamingo. He always enjoyed Hi Neighbour, could be seen by D&S Service, TD Bank, Extra Foods or supporting several Legion #7 events. He worked for Loblaw for 37 years and was in the prime of his retirement life. He loved to work in his yard in the summer, learning his iPad, watching sports of any kind except basketball on TV and in person and was an excellent cook and the "World's Greatest BBQ'er". He volunteered in the bar during the Roar of the Rings; an avid curling fan he was. He loved spending summer nights with friends Dennis and Cheryl Braun at the Fishbowl; catching a bite to eat with friends Wayne Thompson and Danny Danilyshyn or chatting with neighbours. The also enjoyed chatting up the staff at Extra Foods whenever he visited. He enjoyed a once in a lifetime RV trip in the Okanagan with his mother and sister, something we would never expect he would have done but it meant so much to him being that they both live in BC and he can usually only talk to them on the phone. He was never truly a cat person but what made "Grumpa" turn around was the way Licorice can purr and Minnie's big bright eyes. There was never a Sunday where he didn't want them around. What meant the most to Jack in his life were his two girls, Gayle and Jillian. Gayle was his best friend. They would take two - three day road trips inside and outside of Manitoba. They would enjoy lunches out, cooked together often, watched Goldeyes or Bomber games and worked together on their home and adventures; something that has ended way too soon. The two most memorable adventures of Jack and Gayle: the east coast trip, and the trip of a lifetime, their daughter Jillian. Jack and Jillian, don't ever call her Jill to his face, loved to watch live curling together. They working on all types of projects at his home and at hers, enjoyed cooking together on and off the grill, but by far their favorite thing was the Banjo Bowl and The Bombers. We want to thank all the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, Home Care and Palliative Care in St. Boniface Hospital for all your care and support. A special thanks to Elaine for your guidance and support with the medical treatment. I know there are many others to thank and if I missed you I'm sorry, but thank you for your support. In lieu of flowers please donate in Jack's name to Cancer Care Manitoba. A celebration of Jack's life will not be held as per his wishes as a private person. This was his final wish to us.
