JOHN BOCK John Bock passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Concordia Place Personal Care Home. John, the second eldest of seven children was born on September 24, 1918 in Franzfeld, Russia. When he was six years old his family immigrated to Canada and settled on a farm near Crystal City, MB. In his younger years, John worked as a farm hand, in a calcium mine, at a tire plant, at logging camps, and supervisor in the sugar beet fields. In 1945, John married Katie Neufeld and together they farmed south of Clearwater, MB. Together they raised a family, enjoyed the farm, church and community life. In 1973, they sold the farm and moved to Winnipeg where Dad was employed at Versatile for 10 years after which he retired. There was another move to Bethel Place where they lived for seven years. Subsequently, both Mom and Dad lived in Concordia Personal Care Home. It was here they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. John was predeceased by his wife Katie on April 29, 2016; his parents, Gerhard and Katharina Bock; sisters, Katie Friesen, Nettie Falk, Helen Neustaedter and brother George Bock. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Janet Bock, Barbara Town (Bob), Edith Ginter (Gerald), and Laura Molgat (Ron); and his grandchildren: Sean Town (Jacquie), Andrew Town (Dielle), Renae Molgat (Rick) and Justin Molgat. He is also survived by sister Herta Peters, brother Henry Bock, as well as extended family and friends. Dad was extremely grateful for the care and compassion he was shown by the staff on the third floor. They will miss his stories, sense of humour and positive attitude. The family would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank all of the staff at Concordia Place for the respectful way in which they cared for Dad. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St., Winnipeg, with viewing prior to the service. Interment at Mennonite Memorial Gardens will follow the reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Siloam Mission, Mennonite Central Committee or charity of your own choice.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • We all share wonderful memories of spending Christmas's and summers at Uncle John and Aunt Katie's farm. As a young girl, I was a little afraid of Uncle John's (in my young opinion) rougher exterior, especially in comparison to Aunt Katie's quiet demeanour, now I realize what a wonderful sense of humour he had, how intelligent he was and how much he loved his family. Thinking of you all (Janet, Barb, Edith and Laura and your families ) at this time and sending hugs, Monica - Posted by: Monica Pike (Niece) on: Aug 19, 2016

  • I will never forget the summers at Uncle John's farm, it was always a highliight for us kids. My fondest memories are riding in the car with all of us cousins packed into the car, driving the back roads in a hundred degrees chewing up more dust than a camel in the Sahara. It was wonderful, all the while Uncle John would tell stories in a mixture of English and Low german that I never could understand. I would not trade those moments for anything. I love you Uncle John, rest easy. - Posted by: Ted Lepp () on: Aug 19, 2016

  • I still remember as a young child going out to Uncle John's and Aunt Katie's farm. Good times we're always had by all there. The smell of manure is still with me to this day. With his calm demeanor there was always a story to be had about some interesting part of his life. He will be missed by all. - Posted by: Dick neufeld (Nephew) on: Aug 18, 2016
