DOUGLAS MICHAEL STOSKI July 4, 1964 - August 13, 2016 It is with profound grief that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle. Left to cherish his memory are his loving parents Casper and Violet; his brother Allan; his sisters, Roxann and Sherri; his love Kelly; his niece Sophie; his godchildren, Bobby Young, Emily Young and Emily Mohamed as well as his extended family and friends. In his youth, Doug's first love was his dog Barney with whom he shared many adventures. Doug joined the Air Cadets at the age of 15. He took gliding lessons and received his light aircraft pilot license at age 16, one day after obtaining his driver's license. Doug was active in Boy Scouts, and graduated from Princess Elizabeth High School in Shilo, Manitoba. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Brandon University and was accepted into the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba in 1986. During the second year of his medical program he was recruited into the Canadian Air Force. After obtaining his medical degree he served as a Flight Surgeon with 416 Tactical Fighter Squadron at CFB Cold Lake, Alberta. During his military career, Doug deployed to Haiti to launch a mobile surgical hospital to care for Canadian Forces personnel. In 1995 he was accepted into a diagnostic radiology residency program at the University of Manitoba. He happily spent most of his professional career in Edmonton with Insight Medical Imaging. Doug's personal life was one centered on family, good friends and many adventures. Doug was passionate about the outdoors, where he spent most of his free time. He loved fishing, as much with his family as with his squadron mates and hockey buddies. Sophie will never forget that first fish he helped her reel in. Kelly was Doug's soul mate, who brought great joy into the last years of his life. They met through skydiving, their shared passion. Eden North was a favourite drop zone in the Edmonton area. Kelly and Doug also found much happiness in time spent at Maligne Lake, Belize and especially Jodie's farm. No one but Kelly could have matched Doug's appetite for adventure. The family wishes to extend our gratitude to the Gators, Doug's extended family in Edmonton. The Gators are Doug's hockey team, but shared life with him as long distance cyclists, golfers, skiers, and the people who opened their hearts to Doug. Along with his close friend Dave, Doug performed many skydives, BASE jumps and wingsuit dives. He travelled the world, jumping in Switzerland, Italy, Norway and numerous locations in the United States. His love for the sport was limitless, with Doug logging thousands of jumps since his first in 1988. Wingsuiting was his favourite form of skydiving. Doug was a member of the 2014 Canadian Record Jump team, and the 2015 World Record Jump Team (61 wingsuiters in formation). Doug often said that all the cares of the world vanished while he was in flight. A Facebook memorial page may be found online. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Ave. in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Saturday, August 20 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Darren Kawiuk. Cremation and interment will follow at a later date. A celebration of Doug's life will be held on Saturday, August 27 in Edmonton, Alberta.
