Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEILEEN ZAPORZAN (nee THOMPSON) August 16, 1934 - August 18, 2016 Born in Ochre River, MB. Her twin brother James died in infancy. She attended Granville and Ochre River Schools and grade 12 at Dauphin. Attended Teachers' Normal School (Wpg.) where she met the "Love of her Life and Soul Partner", Donald Zaporzan. They were married in 1954. They both taught school in the Springfield and Melrose areas before their two sons, Tim and Rick, were born. They purchased their first and only home in Transcona in 1960-61. Dad continued teaching, Mum cared for the boys before doing some substitute teaching. Then she went back teaching full-time at Princess Margaret, John Pritchard, Springfield Heights and Emerson Schools. Upon Dad's persuasion, Mum took early retirement so they could both enjoy traveling, fishing, gardening and caring for their home. Plus, spending some time with their three grandchildren - Natalie in Kenora, and Paul and Laura-Anne in Ottawa. They traveled extensively with the boys, when Dad was still in good health - northern MB, BC, Black Hills, Chicago, California Disneyland, Orlando and DisneyWorld. Dad and Mum toured England, Europe, Ottawa, and Niagara Falls. They also attended son Rick's wedding in Montreal. As Dad's health diminished, he did less traveling, but Mum would hop on a plane to Ottawa or jump in the car to Kenora. Mum was predeceased by her beloved Don in 2010, her Dad and Mother (Richard and Gertrude Thompson), her in-laws Sam and Mary Zaporzan, her brothers Roy, Roland and Norman, sisters Florence (Frank's twin), Doris and Vera. She leaves to mourn her sons Tim and Rick (Louise), grandchildren Natalie (Damien), Paul & Laura-Anne, her oldest brother Frank, sisters-in law Cecile, Sherry, Jean, Erna and Esther Sabanski, also many nephews and nieces. Mum had a special love for cats and they have become part of the family (Emma). Three words that aptly sum up Mum's life are Don, Tim and Rick - meeting her soul mate, the birth of her two sons - that is what she lived for. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 Kildare Ave West. Eileen will be laid to rest in Transcona Cemetery following the service. A reception will take place at the church after the interment. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Green Acres Funeral Home Online condolences can be shared at www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

We are still shocked at Mom's sudden stroke and passing in August. She was actively and independently living in the family home, looking after the house, her garden and her cat Emma. She is gone too soon and is missed by all of us in Ottawa. Son Rick, Daughter in-law Louise, grandchildren Paul and Laura-Anne. Mom was full of life and in June of this year completed healing and treatment of a problem with one leg. Mom raised, loved, nurtured and taught my brother Rick and I an awful lot. Mom taught the two of us how to drive on the gravel roads of gravel pits near Pine Ridge. I still expect to see Mom smiling at the house. Mom you will be dearly missed and you are very much loved. Your son, Tim - Posted by: Tim Zaporzan (Son) on: Aug 31, 2016

My sincere condolences on your recent loss. Although I haven't seen you(Tim & Rick) for many years I do remember you. Your dad used to be a neighbor of ours out in the country & after I moved to Winnipeg I had visited your parents, occasionally , at their home. I am deeply sorry for your loss. God Bless you both & your families. An old friend Hazel Hoplock - Posted by: Hazel Hoplock (an old friend ) on: Aug 20, 2016

My condolences to Eileen's family. I met Eileen when she joined the teaching staff at Emerson School. I was the teacher librarian at that time and worked with her and her class doing research projects. Eileen was only on staff one year before her retirement. The staff enjoyed the planning and hosting of her retirement tea in the library in June. Whenever we chanced to meet over the years, she always greeted you with a smile and was eager to heart about the happenings at Emerson School. I know her family will have many memories to share to bring comfort in the years ahead. Sincerely Shirley Augustine - Posted by: Shirley Augustine () on: Aug 20, 2016
