GERTRUDE EWHENIA SOKOL Peacefully, on Monday, August 22, 2016 Gertrude Ewhenia Sokol, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister, passed away at Beacon Hill Lodge at the age of 94 years. Gertrude will be sadly missed by her son Neville (Ann) Sokol; daughter Simone (Ken) Kosc; grandchildren, Jacqueline (Roger) Lehneis, Lisa (Shawn) Harrison, Jeff (Naomi) Kosc, Charity Kosc and Ethan (Tanisha) Kosc; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Riley, Natalie and Oliver; her brother Ted (Evelyn) Batenchuk as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Michael in 2004, also predeceased by her siblings. Mom worked in Winnipeg as a waitress where she met Mike. Soon after, they were married in May, 1941. When dad returned from the war, mom worked as a seamstress and later for Canada Post where she worked until retiring in 1987. Mom enjoyed many years at the cabin in Belair especially when family and friends surrounded them. She was an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League since 1956. Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson, Monday, August 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow in Glen Eden Cemetery. Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Milan for watching over mom until she moved to Beacon Hill. Thanks and appreciation to all at Beacon Hill especially the Angels on the 6th floor.
