Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS (TOM) ANDREWS 1922 - 2016 Peacefully, at the age of 94, Dad passed away at Concordia Hospital on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Left to mourn his passing are his daughter Pat (Brian) Michalski; sons, Gerald (Janet) and Neil (Susan); grandchildren, Sheila and Laura Michalski, Jennifer (Eric) Johannson, Lisa (Matt) Prefontaine, Amy and Alycia Andrews, Keylyn, Martina, Joey and Tony; great-grandchildren Adalynn and Weston Johannson; niece Arlene (Patrick) Shirkey. Dad was predeceased by his wife Cecily (2003), daughter Susan (1953), brother Bob (2010) and his wife Margaret (2001). Dad was born April 2, 1922 in Morse Place and with the exception of serving three years in the RCAF in Tofino, B.C., spent his entire life there. It was during his time in Tofino that he met Mom. They were married in Vancouver in 1946, before returning home to raise their family in Morse Place. Dad began work as an auto mechanic. In 1958 he became employed by the River East School Division, working as a custodian at Angus McKay, Morse Place Jr. High and Kildonan East Regional Schools. He retired in 1985 from the position of Assistant Director of Maintenance for the school division. After retirement, Mom and Dad volunteered for many years at Fort Garry Care Home, Kildonan Personal Care Home, Concordia Hospital and River East Care Home, where Dad shared his musical talents. Bumpy treasured his time spent with his grandchildren, supporting all their activities. With Mom, he enjoyed many trips throughout Canada. Dad was a life-long member of St. Saviour's Anglican Church, serving as organist, choir director and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He will be remembered always with great affection and missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank our friends and neighbours for all their love, support and prayers, and also Reverend Edmund Laldin for his visits, prayers and comfort. Thank you to Dr. Ben Komenda and the staff at Concordia Hospital for their care of our Dad. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, a donation in Tom's memory may be made to St. Saviour's Anglican Church, the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 8 at St. Saviour's Anglican Church, 690 Munroe Ave. Bardal Funeral Home 204-774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca

I grew up in the area of Morse Place in East Kildonan. I first met Mr. Andrews when I was a student at Morse Place Junior High. He was the kindest man that I ever met. He always seemed to have time to say hello or talk for a moment before heading off to fix something. I can honestly say that Mr. Andrews was an influence in my career choices. As I always remembered him as a welcoming and pleasant person, I tried to style myself after Mr. Andrews. I also stayed in the East Kildonan area all my life. I also worked as a custodian for the River East Transcona School Division. Now as I approach my own retirement as Head Custodian at Bernie Wolfe School, I would like to thank Mr. Andrews for his influence on my life. I could never bring myself to call him by his first name despite him telling me I should just call him Tom. It just didn't seem appropriate to address him with anything other than the utmost respect and honor because Mr. Andrews was simply one amazing man. For all the years that I have known him, he has consistently been one of the most kind, considerate and honorable men I have ever known. Giving of himself was the rule, not the exception. He truly exemplified what a Christian should be like. Mr. Andrews, I will always be so thankful that our family moved in across the lane 52 years ago. We were privileged and blessed to know you and call you a friend. Ron Lemky - Posted by: Ron Lemky (Neighbour and friend) on: Sep 06, 2016

It was by meeting Tom in church the first time we went that made us feel welcome. He was the bond that had us coming back. All seemed well when we saw Tom sitting there when we walked into the sanctuary. We will miss you very much. Rest in peace - Posted by: Richard and Helen Shore (freind) on: Sep 03, 2016
