SIMONNE VERRIER (née KIROUAC) April 17, 1924 -September 5, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother Simonne Verrier (née Kirouac) at Bethesda Regional Health Centre with her family by her side. In 1947, Simonne married the love of her life, Edmond, and was reunited with him in time to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary. She was warm and welcoming, and loved to visit with family and friends, becoming a beloved second mother to many. Her generous spirit extended to animals, she was always feeding stray cats and wild birds would follow her through the yard and eat from her hand. She enjoyed gardening and would often send visitors away with bags of homegrown vegetables. As a talented seamstress, she spent many years mending the La Broquerie Habs sweaters, and sewed everything from pot holders to beautiful, intricate wedding dresses. She will be very fondly remembered by a large family and even larger extended family. Left to treasure her memory are her children, Lise (André), Aimé (Verna), and Suzanne. She will forever be in the hearts of her grandchildren, Marius (Jan), Anita (David), Michael (Sharlene), Mélanie (Paul) and Pamela (Paul). She delighted in her six great-grandchildren, Daniel, Mystaya, Yvonne, Rhéal, Connor and Théo, and will be watching over the twins who are expected this winter. Simonne was predeceased by her beloved husband Edmond in 1996; her infant son Armand in 1949; four brothers; two sisters and many brothers- and sisters-in-law. A public viewing will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway 1 at Navin Rd, Winnipeg, on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated by Bishop Nöel Delaquis on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joachim Roman Catholic Church, 107 rue Principale, La Broquerie, followed by interment at the church cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Bethesda Regional Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any charity. • My deepest sympathy to the Verrier and Kirouac family members, especially Lise and Susanne. I had the pleasure of knowing Simonne in her later years and always enjoyed visiting her and listening to all the memories she had about her younger years and her life in La Broquerie in general. She was a very good friend and one I will miss very much. She was always very kind to me and was told she considered me as her third daughter. I am heart broken by her departure but considering we both have a deep faith, I know we will meet again somebody in the presence of God and our much beloved Mother. Rest in peace my beloved friend. - Posted by: Jeanne Beaupre (Friend) on: Sep 15, 2016

  • It has been a very long time since I saw ma tante Simonne but every year on my wedding anniversary I think of her. She had sewed my Mom's (Marie Verrier's) lovely wedding dress! Mom got married in it in 1951 and put the dress away! 31 years later I wore the beautiful dress on my wedding day! Deepest sympathy to all! May the happy memories you shared with your Mom, bring you comfort during this difficult time. - Posted by: Rachel Petroschuk (niece) on: Sep 13, 2016

  • I didn't know Mme Verrier all that well but I do remember her to be a kind and pleasant lady. She was a thoughtful and good neighbour to my parents (Maurice/Denise Nadeau) and would quite often drop in for a quick visit. She always had a smile on. Once in a while I would take over egg shells, egg cartons or newspapers that Mom was totally committed in saving for Mme Verrier. On those occasions I most often found her in her garden. Thinking back to that era brings a smile to my face. Truly sad in hearing of her passing. God bless. - Posted by: Madeleyne (Friend/neighbour to my parents) on: Sep 10, 2016
