EDNA ISABEL THOMSON (nee MCCREARY) December 4, 1920 - September 7, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother and Grandmother on September 7, 2016. Edna, the first of three children born to Gordon and Esther McCreary near Treherne, Manitoba, spent the early years of her life on the family farm. It was there Edna developed a strong character that inspired her to work hard, to help others and to appreciate and find the best in any situation. Marrying the love of her life, Murray Thomson in 1946, she moved to the beautiful town of Seven Sisters Falls on the Winnipeg River where two daughters were born. In this idyllic setting, many lifelong friendships were forged, the most special one being with Stan and Anne Gittins. In 1960, the family moved to Winnipeg, where they created a wonderful life together. Edna was an avid gardener, a strong supporter of the Liberal Party and a faithful member of the United Church. Family, however, always came first and she would make any sacrifice for those she loved. Murray and Edna spent countless hours with their children and grandchildren enjoying their company and supporting them in their endeavours. Murray was her best friend, and they had many years together travelling extensively from Asia to Europe to Australia, counting 22 cruises among their travels. After Murray's death in 2000, Edna generously continued to take her children, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on many wonderful adventures. Edna is survived by her two daughters Karen (Stafford Swain) of Winnipeg, and Lynne (Grant Swain) of Vancouver, as well as by her four grandchildren, Vanessa (Dan), Kristin (Cory), Nevin (Elise) and Kyla (Dean). She is also survived by the final loves of her life, her great-grandchildren, Isabel, Natalie, Dean, Emily and Gemma. Edna was predeceased by her beloved husband, her parents, her brother Herbert (1977), and her sister Harriet (2012). We love you Grandma, and we will miss you always. We were blessed to have you as our Mother and Grandmother. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Vista Park Lodge for the loving and sensitive care Mom received in her final years. Also a special thank you to Noreen Sealy for all her support and kindness. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to CancerCare Manitoba in Edna's name. A private family interment will take place at a later date. www.voyagefuneralhome.com
