Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySYLVIA FRYKAS November 24, 1942 October 2, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sylvia Frykas on October 2, 2016 at the Health Sciences Centre, with her family at her side. Mom is survived by her four children, sons, Larry (Patty), Brian (Judy); daughters, Diane (John) and Virginia (Darren). She has left behind her grandchildren, Ryan, Jason (Melissa), Carlee (Jordan), Breann, Brennan, Derek (Sara), Darcy (Michelle), Ashley (Brendan), Brooke, Paige; her great-grandchildren, Bronsyn and Bryce. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, Metro Boychuk and Annie Chetyrbuk; siblings, John, Nick, Mike; grandson Dallas and her loving husband Ernie. Mom was born in Gilbert Plains, MB and attended Woldimir school. Mom grew up on the Boychuk family farm with her parents and four brothers. She was a daddy's girl and loved to be just like the boys. At a very young age, Sylvia met Ernie; he was the love of her life. On February 11, 1961 they were married and had enjoyed 55 happy years of marriage together. They had four children, Larry, Brian, Diane and Virginia. They lived on the Frykas farm for a short while and then moved to Gilbert Plains. Dad got a job offer and off they went to start their new lives in Winnipeg. Mom raised the kids mostly on her own because dad was always working. Mom had seven boarders in their home, for whom she cooked and cleaned. Mom took great pride in her work and how she raised their children. Once the kids were bigger mom ventured out and got a job at Eaton's Warehouse where she worked for 14 years. Mom excelled at everything and anything she set out to do. Mom was an amazing cook and an amazing mother and baba. Her smile lit up the room, her humor had us on the floor laughing, she had the biggest and most kind heart imaginable, she was full of love and so gentle and she was loved by anyone who met her. Mom was a long time parishioner at St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Church. She had many dear family and friends that she spoke and visited with on a regular basis. Mom loved her bingo, lunch dates, watching wrestling with dad and going shopping. Mom loved to play sports, especially baseball. She had the opportunity to play on a baseball team with all four of her children and both daughters-in-law; she was our pitcher and a great one at that. Mom cherished her family and her beloved husband Ernie. They were her world! Mom was happiest when she was surrounded by all her family; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was always open to family and friends. The memories of our home are overwhelming and filled with love, laughter, and many good times. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., with Fr. Michael Krochak officiating. Funeral divine liturgy will be held on Saturday, October 8 at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Mink Creek, MB with the Very Rev. Fr. Oleg Bodnarski and Rev. Fr. Yaroslav Strukhlyak celebrating. Interment will follow in the Mink Creek Parish Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Grace Hospital and ICU at the Health Sciences Centre for doing all they could for mom. Should family or friends desire to make a donation in memory of Sylvia, it may be made to the Mink Creek Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church. Mom, you will be forever remembered and forever loved. We love and miss you Baba. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193 www.korbanchapel.com
