VICTOR BERNATSKY 1929 - 2016 Victor Bernatsky passed away peacefully on Monday, October 3, 2016 at the age of 87 at Holy Family Home. Born in Lukatchi, which at the time was under Polish rule, he came to Canada at the age of three months with his parents and older sister Tamara. His family settled in the Benito, MB area. Later he moved and spent most of his life in the Regina, SK area, specifically on his beloved farm at Zehner. While there, he was a founding member of the Eastview Rotary Club, The Ukrainian Professional and Businessman's Club. He and his wife Mary were also founding members of St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church. Victor is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Helash); children, Jada (Mostafa) Salamatian, Tallis (Corinn) of Bakersfield, CA, Sr. Zoe Bernatsky, SSMI of Edmonton, AB, Ivor Bernatsky (Sandra Smith), Alesha, Jadon, and Janna of Lacombe, AB, Krista (Doug) Schaefer, Alex, and Mitchell of Stittsville, ON, Sasha Bernatsky (John Lobaugh) and Christian of Montreal, QC, Riona (Lloyd) Freeman of Bragg Creek, AB, and Vania Bernatsky (Chris Eberhardt) of Ben Lomond, CA; siblings Alex of Mississauga, ON, Lydia (Kip) Fullerton of Swan River, MB, Art (Marilyn) of Burnaby BC, Mary Wilson of Surrey, BC, Michael (Julie) of Conway, AK, Walter (Marilyn) of Oakbank, MB, and Tom of Vancouver, BC. He was predeceased by his parents, Timofei and Nina Bernatsky, sister Tamara Hrycak, brother Tony, and brothers-in-law John Hrycak and Reg Wilson. Prayers will be held on Thursday, October 6 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. Funeral divine liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Dmytro Dnistrian, CSsR, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 7 at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, with interment in Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lubov SSMI Foundation, 1085 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R2W 3S1; CNIB, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3; or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
