THEODORE VARDALOS April 13, 1936 - October 11, 2016 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the patriarch of our family, Theodore (Ted) Vardalos at the Victoria Hospital. Ted was born in Mostitsi, Greece. His family of brothers and sisters span the globe and are heartbroken at the immense loss of their brother. Ted was predeceased by his parents, brother Thanasi; sister Maria (Yanni); son-in-law Pasha; and brothers-in-law Peter, Jimmy and Ted. He will be sadly missed by his wife and partner of 58 years, Elefteria; children Antonia, Diane and Nick (Ann); beloved grandchildren Giorgo (Amanda), Teddy, Gulay (Rolly), Nuray, Jasmin, Ellie (Nelson) and T.C.; adored great-grandchildren Dimitri, Taliya, Ozzy and Taze; brothers Gus (Doreen) and Peter (Sofie); sisters Angie (Gus), Voula, and Renie; brother-in-law Theo; sister-in-law Dina (Petro), along with his many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Ted successfully ran and operated Niakwa Pizza for over 53 years. It was however his ultimate love of his family that elevated him in stature. Prayers will be held on Sunday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Konstantinos Tsiolas officiating. Funeral service will be on Monday, October 17 at 11:00 a.m., at the same location. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3P 0S2. "Forever in our hearts" www.voyagefuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I've known Ted since 1965. Great guy and I will miss him a lot. I have and will continue to use his crusts at Southside. Best crusts anywhere. My condolences to his family - Posted by: Chef Ken Hooper (friend ) on: Nov 02, 2016

  • I remember working at Niakawa Pizza in St. Norbert with Giorgo back in the day. Theodore would often stop by to check in on us and whenever he did, that was always the highlight of the day. His presence always brightened up the room and he'd always make Giorgo and I laugh. He was a true OG & I know he will forever be missed. (Especially his smile) Rest in Paradise my good friend. - Posted by: Tang Namphengsone (Friend) on: Oct 20, 2016

  • We remember what a wonderful man Ted was from his early years at Niakwa Pizza on Archibald. Living in Niakwa Park, we would sneak down for Ted's hamburgers every time my dad had to head out of town on business. Ted was always so friendly and welcoming to his customers. His work ethic was evident. My mom, Phyllis, remembers heading to Grand Forks many years ago, only realizing when she was on her way that she had forgotten her American money. Lo and behold, she saw Ted's other location and stopped in. After explaining her predicament, Ted happily lent her some American funds, no questions asked. This made such an impact on her that my mom, even 40 or so years later, has never forgotten Ted's kindness and willingness to help. Our condolences on your loss. - Posted by: Phyllis Zlotnick and Tracy Zlotnick-Armstrong (Neighborhood customers) on: Oct 16, 2016
