March 27, 1980 - October 24, 2016
We are devastated by the loss of our youngest son, little brother and best friend. His family was by his side at the time of his death.
Richard is survived by his parents Rodney and Isabelle Thompson, his brother Ian, his sister Terri, her husband Jay and their children Fin and Kai, as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.
Richard attended St. Johns-Ravenscourt grades one through to twelve as well as the University of Winnipeg. He lived in Winnipeg all of his life, enjoying it to the fullest. He traveled extensively and had an adventurous spirit. He worked for many years at POS Systems and was involved in all aspects of the business.
Richard was a kind, gentle and loyal soul who could make anyone laugh. He was always there for family and friends.
Thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Victoria Hospital Emergency Intensive Care Unit for their compassion and comfort to Richard and for playing music for him during his last days. He always loved music.
A memorial service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Tuesday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider applying to be an organ donor to Transplant Manitoba - in Richard's honour.

I was deeply saddened to read of Richard's passing. He was in several of my classes at SJR and I thoroughly enjoyed having him as a student. Richard had a keen interest in History and an inquisitive mind. He also possessed a wry sense of humour that I appreciated, as did his classmates. I also enjoyed discussions he and I shared together outside of class about music history. He was very knowledegeable on music history and loved to test my knowledge. Richard truly was a unique individual and a fine young man. - Posted by: John Einarson (Former teacher of Richard's at St. John'-Ravenscourt School) on: Oct 30, 2016

Dear Rodney, Isabelle & Family, Please accept our deepest condolences in the tragic loss of your dear Richard. Richard was such a wonderful friend to our son Grant through high school and the years since. We have fond memories of him visiting our home in Winnipeg during the high school years, staying with us in the Yukon and having a wonderful mountain backpacking adventure with Grant and then seeing him during visits with Grant in Ottawa in more recent years. Richard was always so kind and respectful to us, had a great sense of humour and Grant was very lucky to have him as such close friend. With our deepest sympathy and feeling of great loss, Art & Leslie Hoole Ottawa - Posted by: Arthur and Leslie Hoole (Friends of Richard) on: Oct 29, 2016
