Born: May 24, 1933
Date of Passing: Oct 27, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERTRAUD ZURSTEGGE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gertraud (Trudy) Zurstegge on October 27, 2016 at Middlechurch Personal Care Home. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. Trudy will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for her love, generosity and zest for life. She was born on May 24, 1933 in Germany, losing her father at a very young age and having to live with her grandmother. Her grandmother passed away and with the start of the war, she moved with some family friends who moved west to escape the violence. Eventually, Trudy ended up in Horstmar, Germany where she met the love of her life Rudolf. She came to Canada in 1955 and Rudolf quickly followed. They married a few short months later. After renting a room at a central park rooming house, they enjoyed going to the Zoo every Sunday or watching movies. Both worked very hard and eventually saved up to purchase a home in North Kildonan where they raised their only son Robert. Trudy worked as a server and manager at the Zellers store, Dutchys and finally the Bake Oven where she retired to enjoy her bingo and card nights with her many friends. Gertraud and Rudolf had a lust for travel and enjoyed many trips to visit family in Germany. They also enjoyed many driving trips with family and friends to Mexico and all over the United States. Mom always knew what she wanted and would give anything for her family. All of the kids on the block ere always at the house to enjoy sandwiches and the many treats that she was always quick to prepare. A gracious and warm thank you to all of the staff at Middlechurch for the wonderful care of my mom (and putting up with Dad on his daily visits), from the bottom of our hearts. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg MB, R3C 4G2. I had the great privilege of working for the Zurstegges a few years ago, doing respite care for Trudy. Even though Trudy was unable to talk anymore due to Alzheimer's she was a dear, sweet lady. I've thought of both Trudy and Rudy over these past years and was saddened to hear of Rudy's passing. Now to read of Trudy's passing is bittersweet because even though she will ALWAYS have a place in my heart I'm glad that she's with Rudy again. Rudy truly adored Trudy. Rest in peace my dear Trudy, even though you had no words you touched my heart so deeply that I can't properly express. - Posted by: Kim (HomeCare worker) on: Dec 21, 2016
