LEONARD JOHN HASTINGS BELL
Date of Passing: Nov 15, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONARD JOHN HASTINGS BELL Suddenly and unexpectedly, Len passed away early evening Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the age of 89 years. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 67 years, Dena, whom he adored and dedicated every day to caring for her and being by her side in her room at the personal care home. His dedication and their love for each other did not go unnoticed by all the staff at Donwood Manor. He also leaves to mourn his children Don (Bonnie), Brian (Kathy), Diane Hordyk (Tom) and Jeff (Joanne); as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother Raymond, sister Shirley DeCarle, sisters-in-law Gertie Buit of British Columbia and Carol (Len) Vanderhooft, as well as many nieces and nephews. Len will be sorely missed for his friendly greetings and smile, always one to say hello and wave and sure to say good-bye to all when he would leave and to thank his hosts. Len had the desire to hand out devotion booklets each month to his loved ones hoping for them to read Scripture and seek the Lord. Len was born on September 22, 1927 in Winnipeg. His last job was with the Winnipeg School Division from where he retired. He then began to take Dena down south to Brownsville where they spent time with many friends. He enjoyed going for coffee with Hank and Fred these last years while he lived at Donwood Manor to be close to Dena in the Personal Care Home. He also greatly enjoyed going out for breakfast with either friends or having all his kids together. Len was an active member of Covenant Christian Reformed church, he was a man of simple faith and prayer, reading God's word each day, and loving a time of reading and prayer with his wife and family. We would like to thank Fred Smids for his dedication in friendship to Len and keeping his dates to pick him up each Wednesday for coffee or breakfast. We also want to thank the staff at Donwood for their care for Len especially in these last weeks as he was beginning to grow weak. Len will be deeply missed and we will rest in the comfort of knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Viewing 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 21, 2016 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. Memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be to World Renew, available at the church.

Uncle Len you will be missed by us all here in Prince Albert, Sk. Your brother Raymond asked about you often. He told me the other day that you were a good brother to him. To my aunt/cousins I am thinking of you all at this difficult time. Your Dad was a great uncle and I really enjoyed my visits at the apartment when I made him pancakes for supper. He was always so grateful. Take care all. - Posted by: Nancy Woods (Niece) on: Nov 20, 2016
