CLEMENT BERNARD 1923 - 2016 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Clément Alphonse Bernard at La Villa Youville on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 93 years of age. Clément will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Alphonse (Shirley) and Daniel (Carmelle), his daughter, Micheline (Rick Harrison), his grandchildren, Ginette (Neil) Sabourin, Stéphane (Serena), Julien Desaulniers, Marlène Desaulniers-Bernard, Rob (Minako) Yerama and Stacey (Rob) Pilon, and his great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Kaden, Amélie, Cyera, Anouk and Alexander. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Cécile, parents, Gaston and Lucie (Gougeon), and siblings, Henri, Alice, Maurice, Marcel and Georges. Clément was born in the Gray Municipality of Manitoba about halfway between St. Claude and Haywood, two villages to which he had close connections and which remained quite dear to him throughout his life. He took over the family farm in his mid-20s and shortly thereafter met Cécile whom he married on November 13, 1948. They celebrated 60 wonderful years together before her passing in 2008. While farming was his first love, Clément left farming in 1958 to go into business in St. Claude as a dealer of John Deere implements and Esso products. In 1962, he sold those agencies and converted the building into a MacLeod's store which he operated until 1971. In the next chapter of his life, Clément moved his family to Winnipeg where he worked at a number of endeavours until his retirement. During that time, he built a cottage at Albert Beach where he and Cécile enjoyed many summers. They also became members of Le Club La Joie in Windsor Park where they formed many friendships. Clément will be remembered for his ability to conceive and complete carpentry projects involving his home and his business. In later years, with physical work being less of an attraction, Clément became an avid reader of history and developed strong opinions about our world and why things are the way they are. The family would like to express their gratitude for the excellent care provided for our father towards the end of his journey. Special thanks go to Rhonda, Angèle and staff at Le Manoir de la Cathédrale, Lise at St. Boniface Day Hospital, Michelle Picton - Home Care Coordinator, staffs at St. Boniface Hospital 5B and Geriatric Rehab, Parkview Manor, La Villa Youville, Doctors Francois, Gravel, Lemoine and Chaput. Special mention to Sr. Irène Rioux and Sr. Céline Vermette for their support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to La Villa Youville, 15 Charrière Rd., Ste. Anne, MB R5H 1C9. A celebration of Clément's life will be held on Saturday, November 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, No. 1 Highway East at Navin Road. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com
