JENNIE MARION HAYKA (nee SLAWINSKI) With her family at her side, Jennie passed away peacefully on November 30, 2016 at the age of 89. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Patty (Al); sisters, Anne, Mary (Russell), Mildred, Joyce; and brothers, Frank, Murray (Linda), Joe (Grace) and numerous nieces and nephews. Jennie was predeceased by her husband Steve, daughter Susan in 1975, brothers Pawel and Paul, and parents Karl and Katherine. Jennie was born in Ruda, Poland on November 28, 1927 and immigrated with her parents and two older siblings through Halifax Pier 21 in 1929 settling in McCreary, Manitoba. She graduated from "Normal School" in Winnipeg in 1951 and spent the next 37.5 years teaching. The first several years of her career were spent in one-room schoolhouses including Arnes, where she met Steve. The majority of her career was spent with River East School Division ultimately retiring from John Pritchard School. Teaching was more than a career for Jennie, it was her passion in life as she loved working with young children. Jennie loved to travel, visiting faraway places such as the South Pacific, China, Scandinavia and South America. She will be remembered for her generosity to both family and friends. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at Inkster. In keeping with Jennie's wishes, cremation has taken place with a private family interment taking place at St. Peter and Paul Church Cemetery near Arnes at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jennie's memory to a charity of your choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I was fortunate to meet Jennie when she became one of my clients at the salon on Airlies. She was such a wonderful lady to sit and chat with. I lost touch with her after she and Steve sold the house and they moved. I've thought about her often since then. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Tanya McKay (Hairstylist) on: Dec 06, 2016

  • Dear Patty, I wanted to offer my condolences for the loss of your Mother. I have fond memories of the hours I spent in your kitchen talking to her about many things, including traveling. We shared that common interest and I was pleased to learn that she lived out her dream to visit many countries after she retired. She was a strong spirited, independent woman and I'll always remember her. Janice - Posted by: Janice LavallĂ©e (Wlasichuk) (neighbour) on: Dec 04, 2016
