DOROTHY EVELYN KAUS
Born: Jan 12, 1927
Date of Passing: Dec 14, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY EVELYN KAUS (nee BURKE) January 12, 1927 - December 14, 2016 With immense sadness and love, we would like to share that Dorothy Kaus passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital surrounded by family. Mom was predeceased by many family members including her father John Osmond Burke, mother Matilda Burke Compton (nee Schultz) step-father James Compton, brothers Billy (Pearl) and Roland (Joyce), sister Connie Olenick (Nick), father and mother-in-law, Ludwig and Anna Kaus, husband Harding Kaus, son Garry Kaus, daughter-in-law Heather Kaus, and son-in-law Robert Lyle Simpson. Mom will be greatly missed by her surviving children: sons Ronald (Carole) and grandchildren Kelly Dueck (Gerry) and Tammy; Alvin (Kathy) and grandchildren Ryan and Jodi; Neil (Sharon); Bert (Tim Evans); Lloyd (Caroline) and grandchildren Janessa and Justin; daughter Vivian Gallant (David) and grandchildren Bryce and Tyler, and daughter-in-law Sandy Kaus, as well as eight great- grandchildren. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg and grew up on a farm near Grahamdale. As a young woman, she was most proud of being the back catcher for her baseball team, kitting socks and scarves for soldiers overseas during World War II, and working at the Grahamdale nursing station. In 1944, Mom married Harding Kaus and they moved to Winnipeg to start their large family. They lived first in St. Boniface and then in East Kildonan, where they raised seven children. Mom loved to cook and bake; her homemade bread, meatballs and cabbage rolls were always requested by family and friends. Her hands were always busy sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, tending to her plants or making ceramic figures. She especially enjoyed making decorations and ornaments for her grandchildren for the holidays. Mom dearly loved her very large family, and would never say no, whether she was asked to baby sit, house sit, make a quilt, knit a scarf or mitts, or care for one of the many family pets. She had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. Mom loved to spend time with her grandchildren, either playing games or watching movies. She particularly enjoyed playing cards and whether it was "go fish" or a rousing game of "in between" that would last all night, Mom loved her time with family. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Amant Foundation.

Bert's Mom, Dorothy, was a really lovely lady, full of love and good humour. She had strikingly beautiful eyes! She was always most welcoming each time I visited her and very hospitable and generous. I think of her every day as I use one of the potholders she knitted me and especially at Christmas time, when I am also able to display the festive decorations she made me - her hands always seemed to be busy! She will remain close to my heart; much loved by her family, she will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences to Bert and his whole family on their great loss. Lots of love, Mary (Lee). x - Posted by: Mary Lee (Family friend from England) on: Dec 17, 2016

Dear Mom, I told you many times over the years that I love you, and I appreciated everything you did for me, but it is worth repeating one last time. You were a best friend to me as well as a Mother, and I will miss you immensely. I will never forget your advice and life lessons, and your memory will live in my heart forever. Your sense of humour, laughter and kindness are what I will remember the most. You are gone but will never be forgotten. I love you, Bert - Posted by: Bert (Son) on: Dec 17, 2016
