Date of Passing: Dec 21, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELAINE MABEL BERKOWSKI (nee PHILLIPS) On Wednesday, December 21, 2016, Elaine Berkowski, our beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 65 years. She is survived by her loving husband Dennis, son Chris, daughter Tara (Walter) and grandchildren Edan, Ryan and Naya. Elaine was predeceased by her parents Horace and Mabel, and her brothers Kenny, Harvey, Donnie and Gord. Elaine was born on January 10, 1951 in Pipestone, MB. The family moved to Winnipeg when Elaine was five and settled in St. James. Although Elaine was only 15 when she met Dennis, they fell in love and remained that way until the day she left this world. Elaine was an avid gardener and a devoted mother who dedicated herself to her family, volunteering at her children's schools and attending all of their extra curricular activities, especially Chris' hockey. Eventually she sought part time employment at Shirt Stop where she met her best friend Gloria and eventually became the owner of her own retail store. Elaine and Dennis spent many enjoyable evenings dancing at socials and playing cards with Gloria and Lawry. Their home was always open and Elaine welcomed each one of Chris and Tara's friends as family. Elaine fought a hard battle with her illness, often defying the odds and recovering to a degree that she could enjoy her family's company but eventually succumbed peacefully. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to Ronald McDonald House. Cropo Funeral Chapel, 204-586-8044

Dennis and family, I remember working with Elaine at Shirt Stop before and after she bought it from the Glass family. We met again years later during our weekly Bingo nights at the German Club and enjoyed sharing stories about our families. We are so very sorry to hear about her passing at such a young age.
