ARTHUR MONIZ DE SOUSA Peacefully, on Saturday, December 31, 2016, our beloved father and grandfather passed away at the age of 79 years at St. Boniface Hospital. Dad will be deeply missed by his children Paul (Lisa), Christine (Christopher), and his grandchildren Aislynn, Mathiew and Ciera. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Eileen in February 1996. Dad was born on March 21, 1937 in Salga, Sao Miguel Azores, Portugal. Dad left Azores in 1956 and settled in Winnipeg in 1961. In 1966 Dad met his beloved soon to be wife Eileen, whom he married in 1969. Mom and Dad built their family home in Oakbank, MB. Dad lived his life to the fullest, he had the ability to walk into a room not knowing anyone and leave with a handful of new friends. Dad was a man with a strong will, big heart and honesty that always told it "like it was" whether you wanted to hear it or not. He was an amazing father and grandfather, he was always there for his children and grandchildren, standing by them through thick and thin with pride. Dad we will miss you always and forever but know that you are holding hands again with Mom doing circles on the dance floor. Special thank you to Dad's close friends Georgina and Zamina for their friendship and support which meant the world to Dad. Also to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital 5E for all the care and comfort you showed Dad during his stay. Prayers will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 250 Burrin Avenue. Interment will take place at Michael's Cemetery in Cook's Creek, MB. This obituary may also be viewed at www.cropo.com CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • So VERY sorry to hear of Arthur's passing! I still remember like it was yesterday when we first met Arthur when he joined us at CYO in the old St. Mary's School across from St. Mary's Cathedral back in the late 60's! OMG!!! Could your father ever cut the rug!!! lol!!! We all had such wonderful times there, never to be forgotten & then life took us all in different directions! Some of us were able to connect again..some not so much... A LOT of the ol gang are gone now..but NOT forgotten! Nor will your Dad & Mom ever be. And who could forget your Dad's '64 gold colored Barracuda..the envy of MANY a guy back in the day!! Next to you all...it was his pride & joy! God Bless you ALL & know your parents are much happier now & MOST definitely back together again "doing circles on the dance floor"! With Sympathy & Kind Thoughts to you ALL always.... - Posted by: Carol (Friend from many years ago...) on: Jan 09, 2017

  • A really great man who hung in through some very rough times so that you two kids would have a family. He was loved by all past and present Safiniuk's. Take care and hope things are well for you and your families. - Posted by: Debbie McCres (Sister in law......Kari & Greg' mom) on: Jan 08, 2017
