Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMIL SOHOR May 15, 1923 January 17, 2017 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Emil Sohor, at the age of 93 years. Emil was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Helena Sohor, his wife's parents, John and Mary Miluck, his sister and brother-in- law Bill and Yvonne Romanyshyn, his sister- in-law Mary Sohor, his father's brother uncle Walter Sohor, and his son-in-law Lubomyr Manastersky. Left to mourn the loss of Emil are his beloved wife of 68 years, Josephine; his daughter Marilyn Manastersky (Sohor); his son Emil Jr. (Sandi); his brother Stephen Sohor and many nephews, nieces and friends. Emil was born and raised in Winnipeg. He attended King Edward Elementary and Isaac Newton High School. He lost his father when he was six years old and he grew up in a single-parent household. Many services and financial resources were not available at that time, so the family managed as best as they could, but life was tough. As Emil got older, he took any odd jobs he could find to help the family. When he was old enough, Emil joined the Canadian Armed Forces. He was very proud that he served his country and has been a member of Legion 141 for many years. After the army, Emil was employed as a furrier at Stahl Furs. He then changed jobs and started to work for Canadian National Railways at the Fr. Rouge shops. While working at the Ft. Rouge shops, he also went back to school to MIT and graduated as an Electrical Draftsman. He then applied and received a position at CN CP Telecommunications and worked there for 38 years as a Western Regional Draftsman until his retirement. Emil met the love of his life, Josephine, in 1946. They dated for two years, got married and have been married for 68 years. They had two children, Marilyn and Emil Jr. Both Emil and Josephine were actively involved in the community and were involved in the same organizations at the Canadian Polish Athletic Club, volunteering their time for the club events. Emil also coached hockey for several years for CPAC. His philosophy was that "every boy should have a chance to play". For all of Dad's community work he received the "Annual Merit Award" from CPAC. Emil was also a member of St. John Cantius Church. He was Building Committee Chairman at St. John Cantius Church when the new church was being built. Emil's life was full of purpose and love. He once told his daughter that he was a happy, satisfied man who had everything he needed and had received everything he wanted. He loved his family first and foremost. He loved dancing, the outdoors and he loved fishing with my brother, so he would have his boat and motor ready and in top shape for the May long weekend and the summer. During his retirement, Emil and Josephine travelled many times to the States and Las Vegas with their friends. Emil was always interested in his children's activities. He was a kind, generous, loyal man, a man of integrity. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. He had the love of Josephine, a job that he loved and two wonderful, successful children Marilyn and Emil Jr. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m. with viewing at 9:30 a.m. at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Ave., with Father Yolando Gamallo and Fr. Henryk Laciak officiating. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 506 Osborne St. Lunch and fellowship to follow at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Pallbearers will be Gerald Roman, Harold Roman, Richard Sohor, Gordon Sohor, David Sohor and Phillip Popiel.
