ARISTIDES BABLECOS
Date of Passing: Jan 22, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARISTIDES BABLECOS In Winnipeg, on the very early and refreshingly mild Sunday morning of January 22, 2017, our beloved husband and father, Aristides Bablecos, peacefully passed away in his sleep. Aristides, better known as Aris or Ari to all who knew and loved him, was born the youngest of three children to his mother Maria and father Vasili on October 10, 1938 during the Second World War in the village of Agios Vlasios in Levadeia, Greece. Aris has a sister Panagioula still living in Greece, and a brother Heracles who passed away in 2007. Aris served in the Greek army as a LOK Green Beret. While in the army, Aris met the love of his life Maria (Maro to all who know and love her) when he was stationed in Thessaloniki. They immigrated to Winnipeg and married in 1964 where they had three children, daughter Sophia, son Vasili, and daughter Marina. In Winnipeg, Aris worked in various jobs until he chose to work at Versatile as a welder and eventually became foreman. Aris then moved on to selling Real Estate and also ventured in running St. Vlassis grocery with Maro in Fort Rouge, and even tried his hand as a restaurateur. Aris chose Real Estate as his main profession and he was great at it, always helping someone to achieve their dreams in buying a house or starting a business. Aris was an avid member of the Winnipeg Greek community and he gladly served in AHEPA, with the Sokrates Greek School, and with the Hellas soccer club. Aris also loved to hunt, and always loved going on his hunting trips. The Bablecos family would like to sincerely thank all the medical staff who supported Aris throughout the years including Dr. Catherine Moltzan and her staff, Dr. John Embil and his staff, Dr. Lefkos Anastasiadis and his staff, Dr. Miltos Lautatzis, the ICU, Step Down, ER, and surgical teams at HSC, the community IV teams, and the biggest thanks of all goes to the nursing staff and the Unit Assistants at GH4 and GD4 at HSC, you became like family and he loved you dearly. The Bablecos family would also like to thank all who have helped us prepare Aris for his heavenly journey; Father Tsiolas, Voyage Funeral Home, the staff at Brookside Cemetery, and all our most cherished friends. "We will always love you and we will miss you for the rest of our days. Kalo Taxidi." www.voyagefuneralhome.com

Dear Mrs. Bablecos, Sofia, Marina, and Vasili, My deepest sympathies on the loss of your father. When we were growing up, yours was one of those families at church events, that exemplified living in love and laughter. Although I didn't know your father well, I know his fine reputation as a good friend to many. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, so to know the generous, wonderful, hilarious Bablecos kids is to know your father. Your standing in the community as friendly, giving, kind and funny is testament to your Dad and he lives on in each of you. I can't imagine the sadness you're feeling but know that you are in our thoughts as you work through this difficult time. In our community, your loss is everyone's loss. Life to you. Me: Aris, that house in … street has been on the market for a long time now. What do you think of putting an offer for the amount of … (a really low amount comparing to asking price)? Aris: Hah, hah, hah (in his distinctive laughing style and voice – which I loved and miss so much now) you must be crazy Kouroush. But, oh well, you wanna put an offer, I won’t stop you. I’ll help you with that. Some months later … Me: Aris, the housing market has been hot now. Do you think I can sell my house on … street for the amount of … (a really high amount comparing to other houses in the neighborhood)? Aris: Hah, hah, hah (in his distinctive laughing style and voice – which I loved and miss so much now) you must be crazy Kouroush. That is too high for that neighborhood. But, oh well, if you wanna put your house on the market. I’ll help you with that. We used to go for lunch at Daily Burgers. His laughs were ornaments to our lunch breaks which made my days more enjoyable. Without exception, any day that I saw Aris was a good day for me. My entire family got to meet Aris and love him for who he was. And, Aris always asked about everyone in my family without exception, every time we spoke. I miss him so much, but I am glad I have those memories that bring tearful smiles to my face. Dear Maria, Sofia, Marina and Bill, what a wonderful time you’ve enjoyed with such a wonderful man. My heart shares this sorrow with you and I hope his memories will be somewhat comforting for you as they have been for me. I miss you my dear friend. Until we meet again my dear friend … - Posted by: Kouroush Ebadi (Friend) on: Feb 02, 2017

Today was a very sad day for us as we heard the passing of our dear friend Aris. Even though we lost touch throughout the years we kept him close to our hearts. His charisma, his intelligence and his laughter will live on in our memories of him. Our condolences to the family, he & George are drinking Ouzo & playing backgammon seaside in Greece now. - Posted by: P. & R. Johnson & Hrisoula Gamvrelis (Friends ) on: Jan 27, 2017
