INGE MARIE MATZ (KRUGER) 1925 - 2017 Peacefully, on the evening of Friday, January 20, 2017, Inge Matz passed away. She was born in Stralsund, Germany on May 8, 1925. Her parents owned a farm but on the last day of the war, Hermann and Louise became casualties of the war. After school she studied to be an agriculture teacher, but was not able to complete her course because of the war. She married Ulrich Matz in 1946. The family left for Canada in 1954. They settled in Winnipeg and after two years of working at St. Joseph's Nursing Home, she began working at Perth and Whitehall and remained there until her retirement in 1989. Once retired she enjoyed gardening at her daughter and son-in-law's home. He referred to her as his head gardener. Her most precious moments were with her grandchildren, Christina and Daniel. She was thrilled at the birth of her great-grandchild, Isaiah Beddows. It was also a blessing to be referred to as Omi by Klaus and Yvonne and their children, Ben, Rebecca, Rachel and their families. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for 47 years. She had many good friends there and enjoyed her Sunday brunches with Herta and Loka. She also had many friends at Donwood South, particularly Marge and Theresa. She was predeceased by her husband, Ulrich Matz in 1966, her son, Manfred in 1948, and her sister Gisela Frick in 2011. She is survived by her daughter Brigitte (Peter Albrecht); grandchildren Christina (Mike) Selman, Daniel (Avegail) Albrecht, Isaiah; step-great-grandchild Donovan; and many friends and relatives in Germany and Canada. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Donwood Nursing Home for their wonderful care and support. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten. The funeral service will be held on January 25, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or to a charity of your choice.
