Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWOLODYMYR MELNYK July 8, 1944 - February 5, 2017 It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather, Wolodymyr Melnyk, on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at St. Boniface Hospital. Wolodymyr was born July 8, 1944 in the village of Kuty, Lviv region, Western Ukraine. He is predeceased by his father Dmytro, mother Sofia and son Taras. He will be sadly missed by his devoted wife, Maria, of 48 years, son Rostyslav (Melissa) and daughter Oksana (Robert), grandchildren Alainna, Katryna, Luka and Nina and numerous relatives in Ukraine. Wolodymyr enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially with his grandchildren. Wolodymyr graduated from the Ivan Franko University in Lviv with a degree in Biology and Chemistry. In 1979, he immigrated to Canada with his wife and two sons. In 1986, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter. He was a devoted parishioner of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, as well as principal and teacher at Ridna Shkola until 2003. He worked at Bristol Aerospace from 1980 until retirement. Wolodymyr was involved with numerous Ukrainian organizations: Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood of Canada (UCBC), Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC), Ukrainian Canadian Social Services, "Mylocerdia" (Svitoch), as well as O. Koshetz and Dumka choir. He loved the arts as well, organizing annual concerts, plays, poetry and writing competitions for Ridna Shkola and Shkil'na Rada. Over the years, Wolodymyr's passion for his culture and the Ukrainian community remained strong and enthusiastic. He loved to help others see the beauty in Ukrainian language and traditions. In 2002 he was awarded with the Order of St. Volodymyr (UCBC) and in 2016 he was also awarded the Bulava Award (UCC). Our family would like to thank Dr. T. R. Babick, Dr. D. Hobson and the doctors and nurses at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Wolodymyr's memory can be made to Parkinson Canada, 414 Westmount Dr., Unit 7, Winnipeg, MB, R2J 1P2; or to Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral. Panakhyda (prayers) will be sung at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12 at Sts.
