ELMA SHEARMAN It is with sadness and joy that we announce the passing of Elma Shearman (nee Giesbrecht). Sadness because we loved her so dearly and we'll miss her greatly, but joy in that she is now free of suffering, gone to be with her Lord and Saviour. With family at her side. Elma passed away peacefully on the morning of February 9, 2017. Elma will be greatly missed by her husband Frank, the children, Jeff (Margaret), Kathy (Ivan), and the grandchildren, Grace, Spencer, Isabella and Stephan, as well by her siblings, Irene, Viola (Heinz), Larry (Marianne) and Dennis (Sandy). Elma loved people. Her passions of music and travel always involved making new friends. Her love of travel drew her to the travel industry for many years, where she happily travelled the world. But Elma spent some of her happiest moments heading into the wild blue yonder with her sweetheart Frank, and their dog Pumpkin, with RV in tow, and off to their beloved Rocky Mountains, and as often as not, off to see the kids and spoil the grandkids on the west coast. Elma and Frank just couldn't get enough of those grandkids. Elma's youth was filled with joyous song, in various church choirs, as well as the Winnipeg Philharmonic, The Sacred Music Society and singing in a trio with her sisters. And there were her legendary trips into Winnipeg from Steinbach, through snow sleet or hail. Only Elma, and the pony express made it through, it seemed, when the Phil had choir practice scheduled. Elma was a loyal friend, ready to always be there for you, with a helping hand and an ear to listen. She embraced the all encompassing commandment: Love God. Love your neighbour as yourself. The family wishes to thank the many kind and caring staff in the ICU of Victoria General Hospital. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church in Steinbach. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to World Vision Canada. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030

  • Elma and Frank have been in our lives for many years. We have many fond memories of Elma. We enjoyed spending time with her in Sandy Lake during the summer & having long talks around the fire. She will be greatly missed. oxoxoxoxo - Posted by: Aubrey & Tammy Campbell (Friends of the family) on: Feb 11, 2017
