EDWARD SEMCHYSHYN March 2, 1933 February 10, 2017 Surrounded by love, Dad took his final breath while listening to the rosary in the serenity of his home a peaceful passing for an incredible man, father and gigi. He will be lovingly remembered by daughter Darcy, husband Garry; grandsons, Reid and Ryan; son Les, granddaughter Nicole; great-grandchildren, Tatyanna, Sheriya and Maleeq. Gigi loved each and every one of you dearly. It gives us great pleasure knowing Dad is reunited again with our mom Joan, his brother Cecil, and parents Vasyl and Maria. Eddy was born in Winnipeg and was educated in the North End. He was a trailblazer when it came to his career as a Court Reporter. He took a correspondence course out of Chicago and became one of the first machine stenograph reporters in the province. Then a few years later he took another leap of faith and started S & S Reporting Service with his partner Stan Smith, to become the first freelance reporters appointed as Special Examiners, which was a rewarding and successful partnership. Dad truly loved his profession. Eddy was known for his unique sense of humour. He loved life! He enjoyed bowling and curling; looked forward to his Grey Cup getaways and golfing with the Lugans; Friday afternoon drinks in the old Hy's Lounge; trips with Mom to Hawaii, Florida, Vegas, and spending time with the grandkids. Ed's Ukrainian Catholic faith and church were also very important to him. He was a proud member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and spent countless hours volunteering his time over the years. After Mom passed, Dad's one wish was to see the Vatican. So Dad and I went on a memorable trip to Venice, Florence and Rome, attending masses and lighting candles along the way for Mom. But Dad's favourite place on earth was sitting on his deck overlooking the water at his cabin in Sandy Hook. So many great times were spent out at the cottage with family and friends! Unfortunately Dad suffered a stroke in January of 2010. To honour his wish to remain in his home, God sent us a team of angels led by Irma, his devoted caregiver of seven years who was by his side every step of the way, which we are forever grateful. Most recently, we would like to thank our weekend angel Barb for making Dad's final months so comfortable, as well as Myrtle, Gisele, Harlene and Merlita, our WRHA angels, his wonderful nurse Ann from the Home Palliative Program, and Janette, his OT who made sure Dad had everything he needed in place. Special thanks go out to Dr. Carey Isaac for your home visits, care and compassion given to Dad over the years, along with his nurse Audrey and the team from Concordia Health Associates. A Celebration of Ed's Life will take place on Saturday, March 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. A private interment will be held at a later date. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • My condolences to Darcy & the family. I had the pleasure of providing care for Ed until The end of April 2016, It was the toughest decision I've ever had to make letting go of my position with him, unfortunately due to distance constraints I had no other choice at the time. I truly learned a lot from him in the short time I knew him & was shocked to see he had in fact passed. I am thankful for the time I was able to spend with him every weekend & those hours helped me grow as a person & caregiver. I will never forget Ed, my very first client. God Bless his great soul , may he rest in heaven surrounded by love & light. - Posted by: Paige S. (Care Provider) on: Jun 11, 2017

  • I am so saddened to hear of Ed's passing. Originally, I met Ed through my law practise but before long, we became good friends. We had a memorable vacation in Hawaii with Ed and Joan in the early seventies. Ed was one of the most easygoing and friendly people I have known. Once you became Ed's friend, it was for life. He will be missed. Vichnaya pamyat . - Posted by: Don and Bryk (Friends) on: Feb 25, 2017
