JOHN FRANK LISKA With deep sadness, we announce the passing of John Frank Liska on February 22, 2017, at the age of 84 years, beloved father of Shannon Liska (David Smith), and Frank (Elizabeth) Liska, beloved grandfather to Justin and Erica, and dearest friend Lillian Brisebois. Born in Tilley, AB on September 29, 1932, John moved to St. Germain in 1938, and then to Dugald, MB with his family, who predeceased him - John Liska Sr. (1969), Zuzanna Liska (2006), and sister Ann Liska (1998). As a young man, he worked in the gravel pits in Bird's Hill, construction and logging, and on the northern DEW line as a diesel mechanic, until he saved enough money to purchase his first farm, and then a second, in Ile des Chenes, MB. He married Helen Liska (Karnafel), who predeceased him in 1999, and after retiring from farming built a house in the nearby townsite, where he lived many years among a bevy of beloved friends and daily coffee buddies, then moved to the assisted living facility in town, and finally to Niverville Heritage Centre, MB. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. #1 East at Navin Road, where interment and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

Frank and Shannon, my sincerest condolences on the passing of your Dad. John was a good friend and a great mentor to me when I started to farm as his neighbor at Ile des Chenes. We have many great stories about your Dad. He was never reluctant to offer his opinion and it seemed he was always right. He was always generous with his time and was the first to help. I am sorry I cannot attend the service. - Posted by: Bill Wilton (Friend) on: Mar 04, 2017
