FREDERICK THOMAS VERITY With profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Fred, aged 72, at his home on Saturday, February 25, 2017. Fred was predeceased by his father, Daniel Charles, his mother, Edith Mary, and his sister, Susan Galbraith whom he would often fondly remember. Left to mourn his passing are his brother, Bryan (Val), nephews Shawn (Becky), and Shane (Chelsea), brother-in-law Bruce Galbraith (Christina), nephews Chris (Sue), Patrick (Cheryl), Brian (Nicole), and an extended family as well as numerous grandnephews and nieces. Fred graduated from Tec Voc High School and became a print setter starting that career with Public Press and later the Jewish Post. Fred discovered the Winnipeg Roller Rink in the early 1960s. With Fred's sense of humour he said it was warmer than skating outside. His passion for the Roller Rink soon grew to his final career when he started working part-time and later rose to the position of Manager. Fred was a fixture at the roller rink and everyone loved him. Fred very much supported the rink's motto - "For Health's Sake, Roller Skate." Many weekends were spent with family and friends in Gimli or volunteering for the Icelandic Festival. Fred was dedicated to family and loved to help with whatever family members were doing, whether it be moving, bagging sunflower seeds, driving farm equipment, building a house or any other challenge that presented itself. He especially enjoyed family gatherings. Fred's compassionate spirit and kind heart will live forever in our hearts. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. We would like to sincerely thank the doctors and nurses at CancerCare Manitoba who always showed Fred respect and compassion. A memorial service to celebrate Fred's life will be held at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Alzheimer Society.
