Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAGNUS HARPER BAYNE Magnus Bayne passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Poseidon Care Centre. He was predeceased by: his mother Marie Anna Bayne (Harper), father, Herbert Aubrey Bayne, sister, Grace Robina Bayne, and his stepmother, Phyllis Elizabeth Bayne (Grant). He is survived by his cousins, Rick and Nan Anderson (Swayze) and their family in Winnipeg, and many cousins in Canada and the United States. Magnus was born in Winnipeg (North Kildonan) on April 29, 1927. His mother, Marie died young and Magnus, his sister, Grace and Aubrey were helped by housekeepers, especially Annabel Brown who remained a close friend of the family. He attended Lord Kitchener School and his family was part of John Black United Church and later Harrow United Church when the family moved to River Heights. Magnus started working in his father's surveying firm and after obtaining his Engineering Degree from the University of Manitoba, began a long and productive career with the City of Winnipeg. Magnus loved to travel, and with his sister Grace, drove throughout North America on long road trips, documenting with home videos and photographs. Summers were spent at Victoria Beach and at his beloved cottage at West Hawk Lake, where he was an avid canoeist, boater and reader. He was a regular bowler, golfer, and curler throughout his life. Magnus was a quiet and gentle man. He was also loyal and attentive to his family and dogs. He was a selfless caregiver to his stepmother and sister in their later years. His family and caregivers appreciated his positive, uncomplaining nature and his subtle but ever present wit. Magnus generously supported many charities throughout his life. He was a compassionate gentleman who did his utmost to help others in his community and throughout the world. Bless you Magnus for your kind and Christian ways. His family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Poseidon Care Centre for the care and friendship provided to Magnus over the last few years. Special thanks to Marcia for assisting Magnus and providing companionship. Thank you to Dr. Singer, Victoria Hospital, and all of the wonderful caregivers who have helped Magnus enjoy the best possible quality of life. Thanks to Harrow Church for visits and spiritual support and to John Deacon for his many years of legal assistance and counsel to the Bayne family. Magnus was a kind and gentle man who will be sadly missed by friends and family. A memorial service and interment will take place in the spring. Notice to follow.
