FRANÇOIS LOUIS ENCONTRE July 25, 1926 - March 21, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of François, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at the age of 90 years. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Madeleine (Karl) Hoffmann, Anna (Marty) Andrea, Raymond; his grandchildren, Valerie (Robert) Rogers, Melissa (John Mayhew), Mitchel, Heather; and his great-grandsons, Evan, Austin and Jack. He was predeceased by his wife Gertrude in 2005, his parents, Azarie and Marie, seven sisters, Augustine, Berthe Baron, Geneviève Rossier, Gertrude Favaro, Jeannette, Léa and Anna, six brothers, Cyprien, Marcel, Jean-Baptiste, Joseph, Barthelemy and Martial. He leaves behind one sister, Blandine D'Angiolo and numerous brothers and sisters in law. His great passion was watching sports, especially hockey. As we were growing up, Hockey Night in Canada was always a staple in our household. Dad was a devoted, loyal Montréal Canadiens fan and cheered them on loudly. Hockey legends, Maurice "Rocket" Richard, Jacques Plante, "Boom Boom" Bernie Geoffrion, Guy Lafleur and Jean Beliveau, to name a few, were his heroes. He never grew tired of talking about them. Having married into a large Francophone family, getting together for family dinners, to chat and play card games was a favorite pastime. Being an individual who was easily distracted, he often lost focus and disrupted the game to everyone's dismay. Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of the Repos Jolys at the DeSalaberry District Health Centre for their care and compassion during our father's tenancy. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with the interment at St. Malo Parish Cemetery, St. Malo, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in François's memory to the DeSalaberry District Health Centre Foundation, St. Pierre-Jolys, MB.
