Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER (SANDY) BOYCHUK November 1, 1929 - March 24, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and Gigi at Seven Oaks Hospital. Sandy will forever be remembered by his wife of 65 years, Olga; children, Linda Rowbottom (Stuart) and Rick (Sharon); grandchildren Amy Usackis (Jay); Laura Phillips (Courtenay); Kris, Michael (Denise) and Terilyn (Adam); great-grandchildren Tomas and Nikolas Usackis, Liam Hunter and Maeva Phillips; brother-in-law Paul Solotki (Jennifer), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Mary, father William, and siblings Nicholas, Nellie, Olga and Violet. Sandy was born and raised in Winnipeg's north end. In his younger years he was involved in Ukrainian dancing where he enjoyed performing in many concerts across Manitoba. It was through this passion that he met the love of his life, Olga. He graduated from St. John's High School and started working as a welder, ultimately attaining his Class A Welding Certificate. Although he always loved carpentry, he was very well respected and recognized for his talents in welding and worked for the City of Winnipeg machine shop for over 30 years. He was a very talented and meticulous builder, and his many projects included building two family homes. He loved gardening and took great pride in keeping his lawn and yard immaculately groomed. After retirement, Sandy and Olga enjoyed numerous vacations down south to Arizona and Palm Springs. One of Sandy's favourite pastimes was playing cards with good friends and family. He enjoyed playing bridge at Gwen Sector Community Centre which he continued to play up until very recently. He was an avid reader and took pleasure in reading mystery novels. He loved watching sports and was a loyal Jets fan. Sandy took great joy in watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and would always chuckle at their antics. Sandy was a long standing member of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Fr. Shyshkowich Council #8925. He enjoyed volunteering for perogy making, selling raffle tickets at the mall, and annual Lenten fish fry. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on the 5th floor, Unit 4 for their kindness and compassion throughout Sandy's stay at Seven Oaks Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Avenue, Winnipeg, officiated by Fr. Dmytro Dnistrian, CSsR. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Diabetic Association, Bishop Velychkovsky Martyr's Shrine (c/o St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave.) or charity of your choice. Olga and family, words cannot express how deeply saddened I am. I can't stop thinking about all the wonderful times our families had together at the lake and many social events and parties. I know that right now, Sandy and my father Doug are having a discussion about hockey. I will miss Sandy and my heart goes out to all of you at this time. - Posted by: Jamie Norton (Friend) on: Mar 30, 2017
