JURIS (GEORGE) JANDAVS March 7, 1941 - March 27, 2017 Peacefully, with his wife by his side, George passed away at home on March 27, 2017 at age 76. He was predeceased by his parents Voldemars and Aina Jandavs. George will be greatly missed by his wife, Dolores (nee Kuhl); his son Konrad; and daughter, Jennifer (Jonathan); brothers, Andy (Heather), and Martin (Vivian); brother-in-law Perry Kuhl (Esther) as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. George was born in Jelgava, Latvia on March 7, 1941. His family was displaced due to the Soviet occupation during the Second World War. After living in a refugee camp in Denmark, they immigrated to Canada in 1950. At age 16, George got a summer job working on construction with his dad and grandfather. He later moved to an office job as a rebar detailer, and spent the last 25 years of his career as a purchasing agent for Abesco Steel. In 1969, George married Dolores, and they enjoyed 47 years together. A man of few words, he was fiercely protective of his children, and very loyal to those he loved. George was an avid photographer. He loved nature, and was passionate about hunting and fishing. He spent many days of solace at the family cottage at Twin Lake Beaches on Lake Manitoba. Proud of his heritage, he was active in the Latvian community, where he served as President of the Latvian Relief Society. George enjoyed travelling with Dolores, which culminated with a trip to his homeland in 2013. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 30, at 6:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
