Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIAN DONALD ROSS August 24, 1948 - March 25, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce that Ian's long and brave battle with congestive heart failure, severe dementia and other illnesses is now over. He was surrounded by Elisabeth and friends at the time of his passing. Ian was the son of Ellen and Gordon Ross of St. James. He was an A student throughout his academic career, graduating from Silver Heights Collegiate and the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Engineering with his BSc in Mechanical Engineering in 1970. He worked for Manitoba Hydro, AECL and MTS until his poor health forced him to retire early. As a youth Ian excelled as a pitcher in baseball and a centre in hockey (Midget). Ian loved canoeing, cross-country skiing, fishing, golfing, and above all hockey. Even after several heart attacks he continued to play in his old timers league. His hobbies included tinkering with old cars (his beloved 1940 Dodge), carpentry and building his home in Pinawa. He is survived by Elisabeth, was the beloved father of daughter Anne (Scott Montgomery) and son Rob (Claire Kelly) and the Grampy to his kindred spirit Max, brothers Alan (Moira), Robert (Suzanne), Brian (Chris), and in-laws Anne and George Kanert. He was the fun uncle of Andrea, Sandy, Mike and Christine. Our heartfelt thanks to all who visited Ian, especially his buddy and "other brother" Willy Fritsch, cousin Gerry Blomquist (who kept the many Thunder Bay cousins up to date), and his loyal Pinawa friends. Cremation has taken place and at Ian's request there will be no funeral but one last canoe trip down his favourite waterway. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Winnipeg Harvest. Ian volunteered at Harvest for as long as his health permitted and was deeply concerned about the hungry of Winnipeg. Rest in Peace, Ian. We will miss your unique and wonderful ways.
