HUGO ERNST KAMENZ It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Hugo, on March 31, 2017, at the Victoria Hospital, at the age of 82. He was predeceased by his parents Pauline and Adolf, and his brother Edward. Hugo will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Tabea; children Sandra, Nelson (Marnie), Connie (Herb), and Diane (Aaron); and grandchildren Jesse, Aidan, Emma and Jackson. Hugo was born on March 29, 1935 in Kamin, Poland, and due to political events at the time his family was displaced and moved to Letschin, East Germany in 1945. The family operated a small farm and Hugo attended school and then later apprenticed as a tailor. It was shortly after he completed his apprenticeship that he and his brother immigrated to Canada, sponsored by an aunt who settled in Winnipeg. Eventually the whole family was reunited in Canada except for his father, who did not return from serving in the War. He met and married the love of his life, Tabea in 1959. They began to raise a family of four children in the South End of Winnipeg. Hugo worked very hard to provide for his family and eventually started a small business, Nelson's Club Wear. Through a lot of hard work and loyal employees the business thrived. In time the business closed, but retirement was not a word in Hugo's vocabulary and he kept busy up into his early 80s until he became ill. When Hugo and Tabea downsized they chose a wonderful condo building for their new home, The Waterfront. Hugo loved taking care of the grounds at the Waterfront and was happiest when working outdoors. He enjoyed the many special relationships he had with his neighbours at the Waterfront. Hugo was a long time active member of Albright Church and his church family was very important to him. He held various roles over the years and enjoyed being a part of the building of a new church and the growth that occurred as a result. Hugo had many qualities and his generosity was felt by many people. He loved to serve and help others and he is an example of how acts of kindness can make a difference in people's lives. Our family would like to express thanks to all those who provided their support and prayers during the months he battled his illness. Hugo's funeral will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., with viewing available starting at 9:30 a.m. at Albright Church, 3400 Devries Ave. in Winnipeg. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Albright Church Next Steps Fund or CancerCare Manitoba.
