Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELEANOR COOPER (nee OLESCHUK) August 23, 1931 - April 3, 2017 On Monday, April 3, 2017 the world lost a wonderful lady-our mother Eleanor Cooper. Her passing far too untimely. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, her companion of 30 years Stan Brydges and her son-in-law Billy Gorrie. Eleanor is survived by and leaves to mourn her three children; her daughter Gail Gorrie; her son Daryl Cooper and his daughter Robyn; Eleanor's youngest daughter Christine Prutzman (Bruce) and granddaughter Tikena Oland. Eleanor also leaves to mourn many loving cousins and friends. Our Mom was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Narol, Manitoba. She was a beautiful, intelligent and creative woman. She was a skilled and talented pianist and her sense of style was second to none. To our Mom her children meant the world and she shared a special bond with her daughters. In the early years Eleanor was a stay at home Mom. In the early sixties she started working at Eaton's Department Store and in the mid-seventies went to work at the Safeway Warehouse and then the North Star Inn. Mom retired from Safeway in 1996. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, puzzles and crafts. She and Stan took many road trips to the U.S. and Western Ontario. Mom was an active choir leader at her Church until a few years ago. In the 1960's Mom was active as a Lionelle in the Lion's Club. During her time as President of the Lionelles, she was instrumental in helping bring in the first mammogram machine to Winnipeg. Mom herself in later years became a two time cancer survivor. Above all Mom was a true friend. She never missed a birthday, a thank you card and took time to listen. In recent years Mom managed her declining memory with dignity. Mom, "Forever in our hearts, Forever loved and Forever missed". Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 10 at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 5819 Henderson Hwy. with eulogies at 10:30 a.m. and Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. As a young girl I remember going to play at Gail's and her Mom was so elegant & gracious. I remember the yummy snacks she would make us. So sorry for your loss - Posted by: Veronica Black (Huzarski) (School friend of daughter Gail) on: Apr 11, 2017

TO ELEANOR'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS, PEACE BE WITH YOU AS YOU MOURN YOUR LOSS. WE KNEW HER AS A GENTLE, SOFT SPOKEN LADY, CAUTIOUSLY WALKING ACROSS THE HIGHWAY, MAKING HER WAY TO CHURCH, WHERE SHE TOOK HER PLACE IN THE CHOIR PEW, AS MUCH OF A PERMANENT PRESENCE THERE AS THE CROSS AND ALTAR. IF SINGING IS INDEED LIKE PRAYING TWICE, THEN ELEANOR PRAYED, A LOT! WE WILL MISS WHO SHE WAS TO US AND REMEMBER HER FONDLY. MAY GOD WELCOME HER INTO HIS KINGDOM. - Posted by: DENIS & DIANE LEVASSEUR (FORMER PARISHONERS) on: Apr 10, 2017

Eleanor was a very gracious women with a lot of class. She loved putting on Christmas, Easter, etc. feasts and entertaining us. She was a hard worker. She always did show her love to her children. Gentle and kind she would listen, laugh or cry in listening to what you had to say.
