Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE (EDMUNDS) HEDLEY Irene Hedley passed away peacefully on April 21, 2017 at West Park Manor, Winnipeg where she had been a resident for the past two years. She is predeceased by her husband Bob; sister Anne Cott; brothers, Keith, Bob and Raymond and parents, Edith and Bill Edmunds. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters-in-law and sons-in-law, Donna and Doug Erdman (Olds, AB), Glenda Hedley (Winnipeg), Heather and Scot Robinson (Kelowna, BC), granddaughter, Jessie Fillmore and partner Tanya Manastersky; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glen and Shirley Edmunds (Tisdale, SK) and Don and Beulah Edmunds (Tisdale, SK) and numerous nieces and nephews, in particular niece Cheryl Cott (Toronto, ON) and great-nephew Rob Mahle (Winnipeg). Mum was born on November 21, 1919 in the family farmhouse outside of Wilmer, SK. In 1931, the family moved to a farm close to Eldersley, SK, near Tisdale. Not wanting to stay on the farm, she began nursing training at Portage General Hospital in Manitoba. It was here that she met Bob and they were married on November 4, 1942. They moved to Fort Garry in 1954 into the house where mum lived until she was no longer able to stay in her own home. Although her family was the most important part of her life, she was an active member of Fort Garry United Church, a lifetime member of the United Church Women and volunteer at Fort Garry Family Life. She was a great baker and shared her cookies, muffins and other treats with family and many friends. She was an avid bowler, reader and bridge player in several bridge groups. She did not enjoy handicrafts, but supported her daughters' interest in sewing, knitting and other textile crafts. Mum was known for her quiet, kind and caring nature and her unconditional love. Her favourite place was the family cottage at Big Whiteshell Lake which she and dad purchased in 1965. It was there that she spent many pleasurable hours with her family and that of her sister Anne. Mum and Anne's favourite activity in the spring was to walk down gravel pit road to see if the crocuses had started to bloom. Irene has been cremated and her ashes will be placed with her mother in Tisdale cemetery. At her request, there will not be a funeral. A private memorial will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to West Park Manor or a charity of choice. Her family would like to thank the staff at West Park Manor for the care they gave our mother and grandmother. My sincere condolences ro Glenda and family on the loss of your mother. I believe she was my parents' next door neighbour in Elm Creek, MB. I have a picture of me pushing you (Glenda) in a carriage. My mom occasionally babysat you. I visited your mom in Winnipeg at her house when I was a young girl. What a wonderful lady..Praying for you during this difficult time. Cherish the good memories! - Posted by: Ruth (Jensen) Giebrecht (friend) on: Apr 29, 2017
