CINDY KRAHN
Born: May 20, 1967
Date of Passing: Apr 30, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCINDY KRAHN Cynthia (Cindy) Maureen Krahn, born in Thompson, Manitoba on May 20, 1967, joined our Father in Heaven late Sunday afternoon, April 30, 2017 after complications from an infection. At the age of three, Cindy suffered a pedestrian-motor vehicle accident which left her mentally and physically challenged for the rest of her life. She grew up in Brandon, Manitoba where she attended modified classes at Linden Lanes and George Fitton elementary schools, and Neelin High School until the age of 21. She was baptized on the confession of her faith as a young adult and became a member of the Richmond Park Mennonite Brethren Church in Brandon. At age 25, she moved to Winnipeg where she lived with residential assistance and a day program. While her later life was often a struggle in coping with pain management, Cindy was a fighter who loved to celebrate. She had a direct, often blunt sense of humour, and she enjoyed cracking a joke or one-liner, especially in front of a captive audience. The Spring highlight was always Cindy's birthday on May long weekend, and she spent many summers holidaying at Clear Lake with her mother Esther, and later with her roommate, family, and residential staff, enjoying walks by the lake, swimming, shopping, and ice cream. During fall and winter Cindy attended and volunteered at Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church, as well as at libraries, schools, hospitals, and personal care homes with her day program. She also took weekly music therapy. Being with people who genuinely included and loved Cindy was always more important to her than the activity itself. Cindy was predeceased by her father Neil Krahn in 1979 when she was only 12 years of age, and her mother Esther Krahn in 2002 when she was 35. She will be sorely missed by her brother Lyall Krahn and wife Nadine; her two nieces Zoe and Lily; her many aunts, uncles and cousins in the Krahn and Hildebrand families; and her many friends and staff at Pulford and Epic Opportunities Agencies in Winnipeg. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church, 1771 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg with interment in Mennonite Memorial Gardens. Viewing prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Epic Opportunities Inc., 1644 Dublin Ave., Winnipeg, MB, 204-982-4673.

Cindy was an amazing woman. When I heard of her passing I was both shocked and saddend. She was always quick with a joke (usually at her own expense). I will miss her laugh. I am glad that she is now able to be without pain. But this is not as comforting as knowing she is is still around to make random comments. I wiish to send Lyall and the rest of Cindy's family, work friends, day support as well as residential workers my condolences. Her lose is a huge loss. Please take care of each other. - Posted by: Michael (Former support) on: May 06, 2017

Lyle and family, my sincere condolences. I met Cindy almost 30 years ago when she was supported by Brandon Community Options. Your mom was on the Board of Directors when I was hired as the executive director in 1988. I do remember Cindy's wicked sense of humour, and also her caring compassion for her roommates. She was well-liked by everyone who was lucky enough to know her. I learned a great deal about advocacy from both your mom and Cindy, they shared the same determination to make things right but always made sure they thought about the people around them. In your loss, please take comfort in knowing how Cindy brought much joy to those around her. - Posted by: Janet Forbes (Friend) on: May 06, 2017

I was very saddened to learn of Cindy's passing. Many, many years ago my older children attended Linden Lanes School when Cindy was there. My son volunteered in her classroom as did I. The world has been a better place with Cindy in it, and folks are better people, including myself for knowing Cindy. Val Surbey - Posted by: Val Surbey (Friend) on: May 04, 2017

No one can prepare us for a loss, it comes like a swift wind. But we take comfort in knowing that you are now free of all pains. This time, you don't need a wheelchair to keep you going because we are sure God has given you wings to fly in His kingdom. Thank you Cindy, for making us part of your life. You will be deeply missed. - Posted by: Pulford DS friends () on: May 03, 2017

I remember College & Career days at Fort Garry MB, and Cindy was an integral part. She was a blessing, and I'm glad we got to know her. Praying for Lyall and family; may memories of her make you all stronger. - Posted by: Juanita (long-ago contact) on: May 03, 2017
