EDWARD BARRON With sadness, we announce the passing of our father, Edward (Ed) Barron on May 1, 2017 at the age of 88. Dad was a quiet, gentle man who cared deeply about his family. He was a man who led by example and who could always be counted on for help and guidance. Dad was born on July 8, 1928 to nana and grandpa (Edith and Russell Barron) on nana's family farm near the town of Dry River, Manitoba. When Dad was a youngster, the Barron family lived near Purvis, Manitoba on grandpa's cousin's farm. There dad attended Willowdale School and worked on the family farm and those of his neighbours. In 1942, the family moved to northeast Winnipeg where dad finished his education at the old Polson School. After high school, Dad worked at several odd jobs in Winnipeg before going on a travelling adventure to British Columbia with two friends. Along the way the three worked several jobs, including a stint at the smelter in Trail, British Columbia and a logging camp on Vancouver Island. When dad returned to Winnipeg, his brother Gylen was working as a plasterer and in 1951, the two started Barron Brothers Plastering Ltd. While uncle Gil later left the company to start a successful trucking business, dad would continue to run the company until his "retirement" in the early 1990s. In retirement, dad remained busy, including doing odd plastering jobs and working on projects at home and at his property on Wavey Creek near Clandeboye, Manitoba. On July 3, 1954, dad married our mom, Nettie Muckoshy. Mom and dad had a loving relationship, raising four sons at our home on Government Avenue. Sadly, mom passed away in 1982, but during their time together, mom and dad were always a pair, whether enjoying time at home, the lake, attending their sons' activities or just taking care of everyday routines. Later in life, dad was blessed with the company of Ann Muckosky (auntie Ann) with whom he enjoyed travelling and many other activities. After auntie Ann's passing in 2007, dad continued to remain active, spending time with his friends and neighbours on Government Avenue. Dad is predeceased by his parents, Edith and Russell; wife Nettie and brother Gylen. He is survived by his sister Merle Roberts; his four sons, Tim (Marilyn), Jeff (Marla), Doug and Mark (Carol-Anne); grandchildren, Jessica (Quintin), Tonya, Sarah, Kayla, Dwayne, Ma'Liyah, Kailey (Brian), Shane, Nicholas, Natalya, Noah and Neyva and great-grandchildren, Emilio and Antoinette. Special thanks to the staff at Concordia Hospital and Poseidon Care Centre. Dad's funeral will take place at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 12 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
