RITA FERENS (nee ALECCI) It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the sudden and peaceful passing of our wife, daughter, sister, aunt and great-aunt, with her family by her side, on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the age of 57. Rita is survived by her husband Greg, of 39 years; mother Rosa Alecci; brother Dino Alecci (Colleen); sisters, Annamaria Lagioia (Giovanni), and Elizabeth Ferens (Nick); nieces, Sabina and Chelsea; nephew Patrick Lagioia (Nicole) (Ottawa); and their children Esmée and Leo. Rita is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins both in Winnipeg and Italy. She was predeceased by her father Carmelo Alecci; her in-laws Harry and Nellie Ferens, and brother-in-law Dennis Ferens. Rita was born in Locri, Reggio Calabria, Italy on July 3, 1959 and came to Canada with her family in January, 1960. Rita worked as an agent for Esso Imperial Oil for 30 years and loved being there every day to serve all her customers. Rita and Greg enjoyed travelling to different parts of the world including their many fishing trips to Gimli, planting her garden, but most of all spending her time with her husband and family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue at 11:00 a.m., with condolences at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. • When we were children I thought she had the most beautiful blue eyes and the prettiest red lips and beautiful smile. I have always thought of her as my very first friend in Canada, and this is the way I will always remember her. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Liana Di Bernardo Bueti (Friend) on: May 30, 2017
