ROMAN MAHREL It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, uncle and great-uncle, Roman Mahrel, at the age of 61, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Roman was born on July 15, 1955 and left us peacefully at home on Friday, May 26, 2017. Roman was predeceased by his father Andrij; his mother Stefania (Stella); his brother Bohdan; and his grandfather Ilya. Left to cherish his memory are his sister Myroslawa (Myra) Melnyk (Gerry); his nephew James Melnyk (Chantelle Maksymetz); and his niece Kristin Melnyk (Jason Mahon). He was a great-uncle to Aiden and Ridley Melnyk and to Justin and Isla Mahon. Roman attended Laura Secord and Gordon Bell High School. He was a member of the city champion Panthers Football team and played volleyball, as well as hockey. He was an avid sports fan of his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Yankees and New York Giants. Roman and his close friends had a long lasting history of Sunday golf and their many sports' pools. He especially enjoyed his fishing excursions to Nestor Falls. He also was very proud of his prize winning tomatoes and flower gardens. Roman is especially remembered for his many years of dedicated care of his mother. He will be missed and remembered with love by all of us. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude for all the kindness and care Roman received these past 12 years at CancerCare Manitoba and St. Boniface Hospital. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My deepest condolences to Roman's family. Roman you will be dearly missed my friend, our hockey and football pools will never be the same without you in the room. As I look across the table from my seat to yours there will be a sadness and empty feeling and will never forget the friendly banter that brought so much joy to these gatherings. You fought hard and I will always admire you for your courage. vidpochynok v sviti miy druh (rest in peace my friend) - Posted by: Dan Malkowich (Mitch) (friend) on: Jun 06, 2017
