MURRY HANABACK It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Murry, at St. Boniface Hospital, on Friday, June 2, 2017 surrounded by his family. Murry was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Louise. He leaves behind his wife Diane, and sons, Tom (Adrienne) and Rob. After his parents' passing, the Westra family truly became "his" family, and he loved them all dearly. Born in Winnipeg, Murry spent his early years in various locations around southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan, finally settling in Winnipeg when he was in Grade 6. Throughout his life he would often talk about his early education in the "one room school house in the country" and travelling to class by horse and hay cart with his neighbours in the winter. Once he arrived in Winnipeg he would go on to attend Weston School as well as Sisler and Tech Voc High Schools. Later he would earn his Business Administration Certificate from Red River College. The love of Murry's life always was Diane. Together they celebrated and shared 37 wonderful years of marriage. There was never anything he wouldn't do for her and always put her first over everything. After Diane, Murry felt incredibly blessed with the birth of his sons. He always had time to be with them whether that was playing catch in the front yard or taking them to a 7:00 a.m. hockey practice. He was so proud of both of them and loved to celebrate their accomplishments over their years together. For 26 years Murry worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs where he was a client liaison ensuring that our Veterans received all of the benefits they so rightly deserved. This was truly more than just a job for Murry as he was proud to be of assistance to these men and women. When his health began to decline, he took early retirement in 2006. Being family-orientated, caring, and accepting of all, were Murry's greatest features. He could be stubborn and obstinate at times, but his intentions were always for the right reasons and his heart was always in the right place. He fought every health issue that was dealt to him in silent bravery and grace. The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and healthcare aides over the years that worked tirelessly for his care. Particular appreciation is for Murry's family doctor, Dr. Cummings, and the staff in 6E at St. Boniface Hospital for the past six weeks. Your compassion and dedication will never be forgotten. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Murry's life will take place on Thursday, June 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. ln lieu of flowers, donations in Murry's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Diane, sons and the Westra family, although I only met Murry on a couple of occasions, I saw how he cared for the ones he loved and how he liked to tease even if he didn't know you. May you find comfort and strength knowing that Murry is at peace. My deepest condolences to all of you who love him. - Posted by: Gisele Gillis (co-worker / friend of Christina) on: Jun 06, 2017
