HELMUT BARTSCH With sadness, we announce the passing of our Father and Opa, Helmut Bartsch. At the Grace Hospital, with family by his side, he went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 96 years of age. Helmut was born in Halbstadt, Southern Russia on April 28, 1921. He was the youngest of two, born to Walter and Emma Bartsch (nee Ullman). Helmut is predeceased by his wife, Else Bartsch and his only sister. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Walter (Doris) with children, Rhea, Emma, Danielle, and great-grandson Kolton (Portage la Prairie); Herbert, Klaus, Erich and Alfred, and daughter Ilona (Robert) Maynard (Winnipeg); also, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth (Erwin) Duester and family, Hildegard (Walter) Thiessen and family, Doerkson family (William's Lake, BC), Rossol family (Kelowna, BC) and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Helmut, Else and two sons emigrated from Germany in 1953, settling in Winnipeg where the family grew to five sons and one daughter. Helmut worked in the plastering and drywall industry and managed his investment properties into his late 70s. He loved spending time at his cottage in the Whiteshell (Brereton Lake) where he kept busy tending to his garden and cottage property. Dad was blessed with good health into his retirement years and enjoyed family gatherings and celebrations at the lake with family and friends. Thank you to the staff at the Grace Hospital and Calvary Place Personal Care Home for their compassion and care during his stay. Dad was a faithful member of the First Mennonite Church, where the celebration of life will take place on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., 922 Notre Dame Avenue, with viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helmut's memory to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
