JIM WELSH April 22, 1949 - June 21, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, Dad and Grandpa, Jim Welsh, aged 68 years, on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, Christine and Grant Welsh and his Uncle Doug Williamson. Jim had a very special relationship with his Uncle Doug over the years. He is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Teri, Tanya, Linda and son, James; grandchildren, Shasta, Zach and Cody, extended family; Stacey, Marcy (Pat), Jennifer and grandsons Grayson and Tasman. Jim grew up in the Deloraine area, from there he went on to join the Military in Shilo at the age of 18. After a number of years in the military, Jim went on to work for Firestone Canada in Brandon. In 1976, Jim started employment with the Federal Government, Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. Jim had a tremendous amount of pride in his career when he was promoted to Assistant Regional Director General. Jim was very active in coaching softball, hockey and ringette. He was also very active as President of the North Kildonan Community Club. Jim had a love of all animals and had a very special place in his heart for his dogs: Gizmo, Bob and Tai. He always made sure that the rabbits in the backyard were fed all winter, even if he had to run out in 40 below weather in his housecoat. When a family of robins nested near his barbecue, cooking in the backyard was "banned" until the babies left the nest. Jim was involved with a number of his friends from Ontario and the Lefko family in an annual fishing trip which he participated in for a number of years. Jim loved to watch curling and hockey. His tattoo of the Montreal Canadiens over his heart, which symbolizes his last conversation with his daughter and son about his satisfaction over the protection of Carey Price in the Golden Knights expansion draft. He also loved to golf; his favourite place, of course was Rossmere Golf and Country Club where he was a member for over 25 years and where he spent much time visiting with his many friends. After retiring, Jim and Donna became snowbirds, spending many cold winters in New Braunfels, Texas, where Jim enjoyed more golfing and the milder temperatures. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Friday, June 30, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. (drop-in) at Rossmere Golf and Country Club, 925 Watt Street, Winnipeg, MB. ln lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Jim's memory be made to Manitoba Underdogs Rescue or Boston Terrier and Pug Rescue of Southern Manitoba which are non-profit organizations. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • It is only now I learned of my cousin Jim's passing. I am sorry that I did not know sooner and that we did not see each other very much in our lives. I last saw Jim back in 1984 at my father's funeral. We would see each other sometimes at family gatherings out at the farm at Baldur, MB. You are resting now in heaven. You will never be forgotten. Cousin Les Welsh. - Posted by: Les Welsh (Family) on: Mar 13, 2019

  • I was very saddened and surprised to hear of the sudden passing of Jim. I have known Jim most of my life and was one of the first people I met when I moved to Winnipeg from Ottawa (at 6 years old). Jim was one of my hockey coaches in the first year I played hockey. My heart goes out to the family. - Posted by: Jason Stalker (Family Friend & Advisor) on: Jul 07, 2017

  • My sincerest condolences to the Welsh family on their loss. Jim was a great person who was always ready with a smile and a joke, always asking and interested in how things were going and he was always willing to help someone in need. We had some great and entertaining times at the N.K. Club over the years and we shared some great stories. I'm sure that we will all miss your infectious laugh. We'll miss you Jim! - Posted by: Paul Krueger (Friend) on: Jun 26, 2017
