JOAN MARY NUTTALL Joan passed away peacefully on June 28, 2017 at Lions Manor Personal Care Home, in Winnipeg, at the age of 94 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Nuttall Sr. in 1991, after 27 years of marriage, her parents, Fred and Lovie White, and her brother Philip White. Joan did not have any children of her own but enjoyed being a part of Fred's large family which included children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be especially missed by Fred's grandson, Rodney Nuttall and wife Marianne, and Fred's niece Linda Grayston as they played an important part in her life when she moved from her home, to Lions Place and then to Lions Manor Personal Care Home. Joan was born in Winnipeg and spent most of her adult years in the Weston area where she met her husband Fred. As an active member of St. Thomas Anglican Church she served on the Altar Guild and enjoyed the Monday Night Study Group for many years. She was a faithful volunteer at the Cecil Rhodes School library and the community Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank. Joan's special project, on behalf of St. Thomas Church outreach committee, was making individual "Fun Books" for Children's Hospital. She carefully assembled booklets made up of a handful of colouring pages, stapled together with a colourful and decorated cover. These little booklets helped to occupy children who spent time at the hospital. She would bundle them up and take a bus to drop them off at the hospital. Joan completed thousands of the Fun Books over many years and finished her last books only a couple of weeks ago (with a little help from others lately). Children's Hospital was always appreciative of Joan's Fun Books. Joan was a kind and caring person. She enjoyed many recreational activities when she moved into Lions Personal Care Home, and the staff knew her to be a loving person who was nice to be around! At Joan's request, no memorial service will be held. Her ashes will be interred with her beloved husband Fred at Brookside Cemetery. Rod, Marianne and Linda would like to extend their appreciation to all the compassionate, caring and professional staff of caregivers at Lions Manor Personal Care Home. Their kindness and caring over the past two years, and especially over the past few weeks, has been wonderful. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3, www.winnipeghumanesociety.ca; Christmas Cheer Board of Winnipeg, Box 51089 RPO Tyndall Park, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2X 3C6, www.christmascheerboard.ca or a charity of your choice.
