Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA KUCHER June 15, 1930 - July 8, 2017 After a brief illness, Olga Kucher passed away the morning of July 8, 2017. Olga was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Polly, brothers William and Michael, and niece Maria. She is survived by her sister-in-law, niece, nephew, many grandnephews and nieces, and her special friend, Ed. Olga was born in Winnipeg's North End, attending Faraday and Isaac Newton schools, and then commenced her career at Monarch Life, where she was a loyal and dedicated employee who rose to manage operations at their Broadway office. However, it was in her after-hours job that Olga truly demonstrated the drive and commitment for which she was known to members of the North End community and indeed, to many from the city as a whole. Olga, together with her mother Polly, was the face of Kucher's Ukrainian Bakery (K.U.B.) for many decades as they filled customer's orders at the bakery on Stella Avenue with the finest rye bread in Western Canada. Ollie was a loyal and dedicated member of her community as well, often lending her incredible baking and cooking skills when required at church and social functions. She did, however, love to stop by Kelekis Restaurant on occasion for their burgers and fries. She also enjoyed bus trips down to the U.S. and could always be counted on to return with gifts for all. Olga was also absolutely committed to remaining in the North End, and though she could have moved from her very modest home on Boyd Avenue, as many before her had done, she refused. Olga felt an extremely strong bond with her neighbours, and they all looked after each other and kept a careful eye on what was happening on the street and in the area. Olga was kind and caring, and even well into her senior years she would regularly cook, bake, and sew for family members and often, with shopping bags full, even in the nastiest weather Winnipeg can offer, would take the bus downtown to drop off her latest creations to the delight of all the lucky recipients. In the last few years Olga was treated well by staff at Seven Oaks Hospital and Holy Family Nursing Home, and the family thanks them for their care and understanding. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave., followed by interment at Holy Family Cemetery. If friends wish, they may make a donation in Olga's memory to a charity of their choice. We loved her and will miss her greatly. Rest in peace Olga. We enjoyed Olga so much. She was so observant, of staff. Many times she would express concern by stating," Why don't you sit for a few moments, rest your legs."That was very typical of Olga's caring personality, always looking after everyone. We will miss her smiling eyes and laughter. Rest in peace, our dear angel. Our sincere condolences to Olga's family and to her dear friend, Ed. - Posted by: Tina Gawron (Evening Nurse St. Mary's Unit) on: Jul 19, 2017
